About this file
This document is Addendum No. 1 to the Contract Documents for the Bland Hall Renovation project at Wytheville Community College, issued by SFCS (Sightlines Facility Consulting Services) on behalf of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) on May 8, 2026. The addendum modifies the original contract documents dated July 16, 2025, and addresses clarifications and modifications to the Mobile Storage Shelving specification (Section 105626) based on pre-bid questions and responses. A pre-bid conference was held on May 6, 2026, with attendees from Wytheville Community College, VCCS, and SFCS present to discuss the project scope. The bid submission deadline is May 27, 2026, at 3:00 P.M., with the public bid opening scheduled for May 28, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. in Richmond, Virginia. Any additional pre-bid requests for information must be received by May 15, 2026, to comply with the ten-day requirement prior to the bid deadline. Bidders are required to acknowledge receipt of this addendum on their bid forms to avoid disqualification.
The addendum specifically clarifies specifications for the mobile storage shelving system, including modifications to maintenance material submittal requirements (one replacement shelf for each size provided), carriage dimensions to refer to drawings rather than fixed specifications, shelf depth requirements with a minimum of 12 inches nominal, adjustable dividers reduced from five per shelf to one per shelf, and confirmation that steel end panels are required rather than solid-wood options. The mobile shelving system must be obtained from a single manufacturer and must support 1,000 pounds per linear foot of carriage with a total load capacity of 16,000 pounds per carriage, meeting seismic performance standards per ASCE/SEI 7. The manufacturer must provide a five-year warranty from the date of substantial completion, and bidders must submit product data, shop drawings, seismic design calculations signed by a qualified professional engineer, and samples. No pricing information, set-asides, incumbent contractors, or specific project budget amounts are disclosed in this addendum document.

WCC MAIN CAMPUS BLAND HALL RENOVATION SFCS – 20301.13
VCCS PROJECT CODE: 260-B4260-040
ADDENDUM NO. 1 1
ADDENDUM NO. 1 – May 08, 2026
This Addendum forms a part of the Contract Documents and modifies the original Contract Documents dated July 16, 2025.
Acknowledge receipt of this Addendum in the space provided on the BID FORM. Failure to do so may subject the Bidder to disqualification.
This Addendum consists of 2 narrative pages.
The following items clarify, modify, change, delete from or add to the Contract Documents. When any paragraph, subparagraph, or sub-subparagraph thereof is modified or deleted by this Addendum, the unaltered provisions of that paragraph, subparagraph, sub-subparagraph shall remain in effect.
GENERAL:
1. A Pre-bid Conference was held on May 06, 2026. Pre-bid Conference notes and attendee sign-in sheet are attached hereto.
2. The Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM) requires any Addendum with Prebid RFIs to be issued at least (10) days prior to the Bid Date. With a Bid Date of May 27, 2026, any additional Prebid RFIs should be received by May 15, 2026.
PRE-BID RFIs AND RESPONSES:
Questions from Specification Section 105626 – Mobile Storage Shelving; submitted by Mr. Kirk Martin from Patterson Pope:
3. Section 1.5.A.1. – Maintenance Materials. We have seen this provision in the past but never held responsible to comply. Each shelving unit is made up of a number of different parts. Please confirm.
SFCS Response: Specifications will be updated. Provide minimum 1 replacement shelf for each size provided in final installation.
4. Section 2.3.E.1 – Carriages – Width. The specifications indicate a 36”W carriage. On drawing A2.1, a number of different widths are reflected. Please clarify.
SFCS Response: Specifications will be updated to refer to drawings for carriage widths.
Carriage widths on drawings are nominal. Actual dimensions will be reviewed and reconciled through shop drawings of system submitted.
Provide plan west stationary shelving with minimum 21” clear depth suitable for storing large, flat documents.
Provide one carriage with a minimum of 34” clear depth suitable for storing large, flat documents.
WCC MAIN CAMPUS BLAND HALL RENOVATION SFCS – 20301.13
VCCS PROJECT CODE: 260-B4260-040
ADDENDUM NO. 1 2
5. Section 2.3.E.2 – Carriages – Length. The specifications indicate a 12’L carriage. On drawing A2.1, the carriages appear to be 16’L with one static carriage being 20’L. Please clarify.
SFCS Response: Specifications will be updated to refer to drawings for carriage lengths.
6. Section 2.5.B.5 – Shelving Units: Shelf Depth. Specifications indicate 12”D shelves. On drawing A2.1, the width of the carriages are 2’, 2’10 and 1’2”. Cantilever shelving depth is the depth of the shelf plus the depth of the upright. If it is single-sided cantilever with 12”D shelves, the shelving section would be 14”D. If it’s double-sided, it would be 26”D. Please confirm depth of shelves and depth of shelving units. Cantilever shelves come in depths of 6”, 7”, 8”, 9”, 10”, 11”, 12” and 15”.
SFCS Response: Refer also to answer for question 4 above.
Design intent is to provide multiple widths for various material sizes, with minimum shelf depth of 12”.
7. Section 2.5.B.6.b – Shelving Units: Adjustable Dividers. Specifications ask for 5 adjustable dividers per shelf. This seems like a lot. My most recent library projects have gone to a single book support on each shelf. The adjustable divider requires a center stop on each side and also eliminates the use of the 2” common area created by the depth of the upright.
SFCS Response: Specifications will be updated to provide one divider per shelf.
8. Section 2.5.F – End Panels – Specifications list steel end panels and solid-wood end panels with no indication on the drawing which end panel is require. Please clarify.
SFCS Response: Specifications have been updated to indicate steel end panels.
CHANGES TO SPECIFICATIONS:
NOTE: All specification sections listed below shall be deleted and replaced in their entirety per this Addendum.
9. Section 105626 – MOBILE STORAGE SHELVING
This specification section has been modified for Addendum No. 1 in response to Pre-Bid RFI numbers 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 listed above.
