Walk-through Detection System Requirements Summary

This document outlines the technical specifications for a walk-through detection system requested by Jones County School System (JCSS) in Gray, Georgia. The system must be a freestanding, open-frame or traditional arch-style metal detection unit designed to screen individuals in motion without requiring them to stop or remove personal items such as backpacks, purses, or electronics. The system must detect a wide range of metallic threats, including handguns of all sizes, knives, bladed weapons, long guns or components, and high-threat metallic items concealed in bags or clothing, while simultaneously reducing nuisance alarms from common school items like keys, phones, and laptops. The system must support real-time continuous scanning at normal walking pace with a low alarm rate to maintain efficient throughput during peak school arrival times, and it must be suitable for both indoor and outdoor deployment.

The system must operate on standard 110V AC power and/or rechargeable battery packs with minimum 8-16 hours of runtime, and it must support local configuration with optional wireless connectivity for monitoring or updates. Additional requirements include visible LED and adjustable audible alert indicators, mobility without tools requiring only two staff members to move safely, durability for daily setup and relocation, and optional transport carts or cases. The vendor must provide on-site or virtual training, user manuals, quick-start guides, technical support availability, and minimum one-year warranty coverage, preferably extending to 2-3 years. The system must not capture or store images and must comply with all applicable student privacy and data protection laws, with any analytics or logs limited to operational data such as counts and alarms.
