About this file
This document is an Amendment to Solicitation W912WJ24B0009 for the Bourne Bridge Painting project. The amendment responds to requests for information (RFIs) regarding the contract. Key details include:
The solicitation is for a maintenance painting project on the Bourne Bridge, a 2,400-foot long steel truss bridge over the Cape Cod Canal. The project involves painting the below-deck structural steel members that have experienced paint loss and corrosion. The solicitation includes a base bid and option bid items, with the option bids requiring only spot painting to the quantities listed. The government provided clarification on how the square footage of painted areas will be measured for payment purposes, stating that the exterior surface areas of the bridge members shown in the drawings will be used. Additionally, the government clarified that closely fabricated truss members will be measured as solid for painting purposes. The amendment is effective on 15-May-2024.

AMENDMENT 0004
RFI 0003
1. What method was used by USACE to takeoff the truss? and How exactly is square footage of painted areas going to be measured in the field for payment purposes?
Square footages of the bridge framing have been derived from the actual exterior surfaces of the members shown on the bridge As-built drawings included in the Appendix D of the Project Specifications. Bidders are directed to review the scope and limits of the painting as stated in Specification Section 01 11 00 SUMMARY OF WORK, Paragraph 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 for both the Base and Option Bids. For the Option Bids, Bidders are directed to Specification Section 01 11 00 SUMMARY OF WORK, Paragraph 1.1.2.a and 1.1.2.b for scope requirements on the Pre-Construction Tabulation and Post-Construction Validation.
Option bid items require spot painting only to the quantities listed in the bid schedule, as it is not the intent to paint the entire span. Closely fabricated items, such trusses with lacing bars, were measured as being solid and the contractor is only required to paint the exterior.
