78. The possible jumper location for the T/W circuit is shown on EA101. Will the sign circuit require a jumper to keep the circuit operational possibly across T/W G? Please provide circuit routing information on the existing sign circuit.
Answer: The sign circuit runs primarily along the south side of Runway 14-32. The signs along
Twy A, E, F, G, and H are fed primarily off cables branching off from there. The contractor shall provide any jumpers to keep the sign circuit operational and protected during the construction. Portions of the sign circuit are called out to be replaced during this project and therefore the sign circuit will need to be jumpered at several locations.
79. How should the counterpoise be installed in the area of the two raceways on the south side of T/W A between Station 80+00 and 88+60? How many counterpoise runs will be needed and where will they be located given the details on EA/503 do not show a scenario with multiple parallel raceways?
Answer: Two counterpoise runs will be needed. Counterpoise shall be installed per detail 3 or
5 on EA503. For the counterpoise run outside the pavement, the counterpoise cable shall be installed above the circuit cable per UFC 3-535-01 12-1.6.1. The handhole currently called out in the plans at STA 80+22.11 shall be RELOCATED and installed at STA 84+00.
80. Do the lights in turf on T/W F and T/W G get drains connecting to the underdrain given that CU141 and CU142 do not show underdrains in these areas.
Answer: No lights along the edges of Twy F an Twy G do not need to be connected to the underdrain since the underdrain is not present along these edges of pavement. Where lights are within 15’ of an underdrain pipe trench, the light shall be connected to the trench for drainage.
81. The light base installation details show 2” PVC drain pipe to “under drain”. Given detail
2/CU521, is the intent to terminate the 2” pipe through the filter fabric into the filter material keeping positive drainage or is the intent to connect the 2” PVC to the 6” underdrain pipe?
Answer: The intent is to get the drain pipe to the underdrain trench and the filter material.
82. What is the meaning of the dark key notes and cross section in the shaded area near the runway on EA123?
Answer: Key notes are called out in the upper left about particular situations and the details are shown on the various EA502 sheet. The shaded area is the new asphalt shoulder.
83. Reference notes on EA122 at the new duct bank location, where will the following cables be routed and spliced point to point: 4-#6, 8-#8, 1-12/C #12, 2-#4? Will any of these cable routes require equipment grounds per note 1 detail 4/EA501. If yes, are the equipment grounds included in the listed cables?
Answer: Yes. The grounds are not included in the list. Splicing is shown at the two existing manholes.
84. What are the new duct cross sections for the short runs between the new and existing electrical hand holes on each side of T/W G on EA122?
Answer: There is no detail. The conduits are direction drilled. See note 5.
85. Reference 26 08 00 3.1.a, what electrical testing is required to be tested by a third party?
Specifically, spec 26 56 20 outlines testing for the airport lighting circuits vs 33 71 02 (requiring the third party) for underground electrical distribution.
Answer: As indicated in the electrical specifications, third party testing is required for photometrics. All other testing may be performed by the contractor as long as the individuals are qualified and/or certified to perform the testing in accordance with the specifications and standards.
86. Should the detail reference in note 5/EA123 be detail 3 vs detail 5/EA501?
Answer: Yes.
87. Should the inset lights be installed with L-868B bases w/ flange rings or L-868C bases w/ snow plow rings? There is a conflict between detail 2 and 3/EA501. If snow plow rings are required for the L-852T inset omni directional fixtures please explain spec 26 56 20 requiring bidirectional snow plow rings.
Answer: Snow plow rings are required for in-pavement, flush mounted lights. The reference for bidirectional snow plow ring was for the Runway edge lights that aren’t needed anymore under this project.
88. Are two-piece L-868 base cans acceptable for two inset MITLs similar to detail 1/EA501?
Answer: yes the 2 piece L-868 can is acceptable.
89. Is note 1/EA122 applicable to anything on this plan page?
Answer: Note 1 can be disregarded.
90. Per note 1 detail 1/EA501, are the existing fixtures 14”?
Answer: Existing height is to be field verified.
91. There are 5 more elevated MITLs being reinstalled than being removed. Will the additional lights be provided by the owner or will the contractor need to provide them?
Answer: Contractor provided.
92. If new MIRLs lights are to be provided please confirm the light specifications 26 56 20 2.3.1. 45w
LED?
Answer: No Runway lights will need to be provided.
93. Reference detail 1/EA501, is the 1” crown shown in the asphalt required? We are not sure how this could be executed with any level of quality control. If the crown is required, a possible solution could be to install a 24” diameter section of concrete to grade vs the flexible pavement shown.
Answer: The pavement needs to slope away from the fixture to prevent standing water.
94. Reference detail 3/EA504, please confirm the number of modules and legend for AS-10.
Answer: 2 modules.
95. Are the existing T/W and runway circuits 6.6amp?
Answer: Yes.
96. Please provide more detail on the requirements for photometric testing found in spec 26 56 20
3.9.3. The specification seems more applicable to bidirectional runway lights vs omnidirectional taxiway lights.
Answer: The testing specification covers all types as indicated in 3.9.3 c. tables 1,2 and 3 in
FAA AC 150/5345-46. Table 3 covers omnidirectional elevated lights.
97. Are fluoropolymer bolts only required for the two L-852T inset light installations vs the elevated lights calling for stainless steel in spec 26 56 20 3.1.3? Clarify the term inset (flush mount) vs in-pavement which could refer to both flush and elevated lights.
Answer: Inset and in-pavement with reference to light fixtures are used interchangeably.
98. Reference spec 26 56 20 3.1.3, are two piece washers required for both inset and elevated lights?
Answer: Yes Two-piece locking washers are required for all airfield light fixtures.
99. What spare parts quantity and type are required per spec 26 56 20 2.9.8?
Answer: Provide 10% spare for LED lamps and drivers for edge lights.
100. Are the external base cans grounds to be #6 per the plans or #4 per spec 26 56 20 3.7.1.b?
Answer: #6
