The following is a request for additional information or clarification regarding the bid documents for the USACE NOV- NF-W-06B.1 Woodpark Floodwalls project:
1. Please clarify the following items at the Tension Pile Connection Detail on Drawing S-206:
• We are not familiar with the field weld symbol in the elevation detail designating the number 12.
• The bottom of the ½" plate is below the bottom of the T-Wall Foundation. Is that the intent?
• In order to make the weld at the bottom of the ½" plate, the welder will need to be able to see that joint, therefore, we will need to excavate below the bottom of the 4" stabilization slab. Is that the intent?
• The coating of the pipe piles starts 3" from the top of the pile and extends down 15'. Does that mean we also have to coat part of the tension pile connector that is within that portion of the pile?

ED-T Note- Tension connectors are required on all pipe piles. See sheet S-204.
• We are not familiar with the field weld symbol in the elevation detail designating the number 12.
ED-T response - 12 inches
• The bottom of the ½" plate is below the bottom of the T-Wall Foundation. Is that the intent?
ED-T response – No – drawings to be amended to make base slab 4'-2" thick M1 through M47 with bottom elevation of -1.2.
• In order to make the weld at the bottom of the ½" plate, the welder will need to be able to see that joint, therefore, we will need to excavate below the bottom of the 4" stabilization slab. Is that the intent?
ED-T response – Yes, contract can excavate around the pile as necessary to perform the weld and inspections.
• The coating of the pipe piles starts 3" from the top of the pile and extends down 15'. Does that mean we also have to coat part of the tension pile connector that is within that portion of the pile?
ED-T response – Yes, provide the coating and touch up areas damaged by the welding process.
Amendment forthcoming. By: Kelly Turcotte; MVK-CT Contracting Division; (6016315379) On: Dec 14

For pipe pile wall thickness you have specified a 0% tolerance below what is indicated on the contract drawings (.500"), which deviates from the acceptable wall thickness tolerances of ASTM A139/A 139M, API Spec 5L and ASTM A 500 for this application. Was your intent for a "min wall spec"? If so, can you clarify as such and/or specify a higher wall thickness that will ensure zero tolerance below .500"?
