About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file related to a rooftop unit (RTU) installation project. The document addresses a specific industry question about curb adaptation for existing roof infrastructure. The government's response provides flexibility to the contractor, indicating they may repair, modify (including using curb adapters), or replace the existing RTU curb, provided the work conforms to manufacturers' recommendations and industry best practices. The government explicitly states they cannot guarantee the condition or usability of existing curbs, leaving the technical assessment and solution to the contractor's discretion.

Questions from Industry/ Answers from Government
Question 1: Can we use curb adapters to adapt to old curb or do you want complete new curb? If new curb is wanted is there a warranty on the roof/ certain contractor we need to use to keep the warranty valid.
Answer 1: “Work for RTU-1 and RTU-2 includes as described in paragraph 2.2 ''Installation includes repairs, modifications, or replacement of the existing RTU curb required for mounting the new RTUs to the roof. Repair or replace any damaged flashing or membrane.'' The Contractor may choose to repair the existing curb, modify the curb (which could include the use of a curb adapter), or replace the curb as long as such work conforms to the manufacturers’ recommendations and best industry practices. The Government cannot guarantee the condition or usability of existing curbs.”
