Purpose: The purpose of the MOS 12N10 Horizontal Construction Engineer Course is to provide skill level 1 Soldiers with the skills and knowledge required to effectively operate construction equipment and assist in engineering missions.

Course Scope: The Soldier receives MOS-specific training:

Phase 1 consists of 100.0 hours of training that includes: Safety, Environmental Stewardship, The Army Maintenance Management System, Construction Prints, Basic Soils, Grade Stakes, Basic Surveying, Dump Truck Operations, Scoop Loader Operations and Hydraulic Excavator Operations.

Phase 2 consists of 120.0 hours of MOS specific training that includes: Motorized Grader Operations, Crawler Tractor Operations, Motorized Scraper Operations and Backhoe Loader Operations.

Phase Scope: The Soldier receives MOS-specific training on:

Safety, Environmental Stewardship, The Army Maintenance Management System, Construction Prints, Basic Soils, Grade Stakes, Basic Surveying, Dump Truck Operations, Scoop Loader Operations and Hydraulic Excavator Operations.

Course Prerequisites: Reclassification course Soldiers must meet requirements listed in DA Pam

611-21, AR 350-1, possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license, must report to Phase 1 and 2 training with their DA Form 348 and their Accident Avoidance Class Certificate.

611-21, AR 350-1, possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license, must report to Phase 1 and 2 training with their DA Form 348 and their Accident Avoidance Course Certificate.

Earthwork Principal's training is the only prerequisite module required in this phase. All Soldiers must attend and successfully complete the Earthwork Principal's training at the beginning of Phase 1 before moving to the round robin method of training.

Special Information: All PPE will be provided by the school.

Soldiers must report to Phase 1 and 2 training with their DA Form 348 and their Accident Avoidance Course Certificate.

All equipment is trained using the Round Robin method of training. Module A must be trained utilizing all 12 students prior to breaking down into the round robin method of training. The dump trucks and students from the dump module can be utilized for the load a haul unit in the loader training. The training times align as does the training duration.

The hydraulic excavator training will require four additional Dumps and licensed operators for load a haul unit in the HYEX training module. The same four support personnel can be utilized as operators in phase 2 for push loading the scraper.
