About this file

This document is a military standard, MIL-STD-642G, that establishes requirements for the identification marking of combat and tactical transport vehicles for the Department of Defense.

The standard covers the marking requirements for wheeled and tracked vehicles, self-propelled guns, and transport vehicles, including the use of registration markings, national symbols, concealed markings, and special markings such as for ambulances and military police. It specifies the locations, style, size, spacing, colors, and application methods for the markings. The standard is mandatory for use by all Department of Defense agencies. It references several federal and military specifications for the materials to be used. This is not a performance work statement or contract solicitation, but rather a technical standard for vehicle markings.
