About this file

This document is a Question and Answer file for a Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Mat solicitation for the Engineer Research and Development Center Geospatial Sciences Laboratory (ERDC GSL). The Q&A addresses four key technical specifications related to the FRP mat, including material composition and weight requirements. Vendors asked about using vinyl ester resin instead of polyester and sought clarification on panel weight tolerances. The government responses indicate flexibility in resin selection, confirming that vinyl ester is acceptable, and that while the original specification listed 120 pounds per panel, weights between 145-150 pounds would be acceptable if other solicitation specifications are met. The document emphasizes that no specific weight tolerance exists, and vendors should refer to the original solicitation for properties with defined tolerances.

Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Mat for ERDC GSL

Question and Answer

Question #1 – Per the specifications (Section 3.2.1. FRP material.) They call out use of polyester resin. We generally utilize vinyl ester which is a strong resin. Would vinyl ester be an acceptable alternative?

Answer 1 – Yes, vinyl ester would be acceptable.

Question #2 – Per the specifications (Section 3.3.2. Weight.) They list the approximate weight of the panels shall be approximately 120 lbs. We believe the part to be 145 to 150#, is this acceptable.

Answer 2 – The weight of the panels does not have a tolerance. If the vendor can make a mat that meets the specifications in the solicitation, then 145 lbs to 150 lbs is acceptable.

Question #3 – Can you please advise what is the tolerance on weight (+/-) solicitation describe

120 pounds per panel.

Answer 3 – No tolerance on the weight. The properties that have a tolerance are listed in the solicitation.

Question #4 – Will a different resin be allowed or are you specifically looking for polyester?

Answer 4 – Yes, a different resin is allowable.
