About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a horizontal directional drill experimental site development project for the Engineer Research and Development Center at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. The project involves drilling a borehole near the ERDC property boundary, with no major limitations except on the north side adjacent to the property line. ERDC can provide locations of existing utilities near the borehole site as well as on-site information for a shallow buried electrical conduit, which should not interfere with the drill path or entry/exit pits. Geologic interpretation and borehole logs for the closest sites to the drill path are attached. Site access is through the ERDC contractor gate and paved roads, with space allowed along the gravel access road leading to the drill site for layout and material handling. Equipment and personnel limitations are detailed in the related federal contract opportunity.

Question & Answer

Horizontal Directional Drill Experimental Site Development for ERDC GSL

Question 1: Is there any Geotech that you would be able to provide?

Answer 1: See attachment with a geologic interpretation along with the closest bore hole logs nearest the HDD path.

Question2: Are there any ordinances that would be identified in the region? Is the contractor responsible for locating existing utilities?

Answer 2: ERDC can provide locations of utilities, however there are no utilities close to the borehole other than a shallow buried electrical conduit that ERDC can provide on-site location information. It should not interfere with the HDD or entry/edit pit locations.

Question 3: What is the size of the worksite both on the entry and exit of the HDD for equipment? Are there any limitations?

Answer 3: No real limitations other than on the north side of the planned bore path which is adjacent to the ERDC property line boundary.

Question 4: What are the access requirements and/or limitations for both personnel and equipment?

Answer 4: Limitations are explained in details of the contract and include limitations for any non-US citizens. Site access is thru the ERDC contractor gate and paved roads end at the gravel access road leading to the HDD site. Layout and material handles space is allowed along the road to the HDD bore path and can be coordinated with the Gov representative.
