WEATHER DATA

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 Project Location

The project is located at latitude 30 degrees 12' N, 81 degrees 42' W.

MONTHLY ANTICIPATED ADVERSE WEATHER DELAY WORK

DAYS BASED ON 5-DAY WORK WEEK

The average number of days in each calendar month with rain equal to, or greater than, 0.5 inches is provided for the project area in the following table. This information is based on data obtained from the NOAA rain gage located closest to the project area, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, located at latitude 30.2875 and longitude -81.3928. The data were obtained from Climatography of the United States No. 20, Climatic Summaries for Selected Sites in Florida publications by the National Climatic Center, NOAA, for the period of record from 1981 through 2010.

Average Number of Days per Month with Precipitation >= 0.50 Inches

It shall be the contractor's responsibility to obtain information concerning weather conditions in the project area. Reference is made to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The publication entitled Local Climatological Data - Monthly Summary Which contains climatological and meteorological observations and data, including wind, rain, and temperature data for the project area. Subscription price and ordering information are available from the National Climatic Data Center, Federal Building, Asheville, North Carolina 28801.

1.1.1 Weather Condition

The project area is subject to tropical storms and hurricanes from June through November, and to windy and/or rainy weather during any time of the year. The climate of the area is essentially subtropical, and temperatures below freezing are infrequent. The wet season in the project area is from May through October. Rainfall during these months is closely associated with convective activity. These rainfall events are normally of short duration and amounts are spatially variable. In general, the winter months constitute the dry season. Rainfall during the winter months is usually associated with mid-latitude systems (fronts and low pressure systems) and is distributed in a more spatially uniform pattern. Occasionally, daily rainfall in the dry season can be quite heavy as mid-latitude systems penetrate into Florida.

Dangerous thunderstorms can occur in this area at any time of the year.

Weather forecasts as well as actual rainfall information from the National Weather Service Jacksonville-North Florida forecast office can be accessed at: hhtp://www.srh.noaa.gov/jax/.

1.4 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

1.4.1 Project Description

Building No. 171 is a 101,500 square-foot DLA warehouse located on the flight line at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville. The building is a one-story masonry building originally built in the 1940s. The building enclosure consists of a steel joist and wood purlin roof framing system on an interior structural steel framing system (wood purlins with wood bracing and galvanized steel rafters with masonry non-load bearing exterior walls).

The overall building is divided into 3 sections via brick masonry firewalls that extend through the roof and are flashed with asphaltic roofing membrane and capped with metal coping. The building also has a full length cantilevered canopy on the west elevation and 2 canopies on the east elevation supported by double angle steel stringers. The roof and canopies are covered by multi-ply modified bitumen roof systems. The warehouse roof is a low slope roof which sheds water to a gutter and downspout system. The downspouts penetrate the canopy roofs below. The canopies slope from the exterior edge toward the warehouse and drainage is provided via a sloped roof surface to roof drains. The drain pipes penetrate the canopy ceiling then connect to the warehouse downspouts below.

1.4.2 Project Location

The work shall be located at Building 171, Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, Florida. See Location map on cover sheet of drawings.

1.4.3 Project Scope

The Contractor shall be responsible for the full design and construction of the roof replacement for Building 171. The contractor shall submit the Design After Award submittals at 100% Design. All aspects of the design shall be signed and sealed by a Registered Professional Architect, Registered Professional Engineer, or other registered professional licensed by the State of Florida. Fast tracking of the design is not required.

Section 01 33 16 DESIGN AFTER AWARD contains additional requirements for the Design and Construction submittals.

The scope of work for this project is for the removal and lawful disposal of the existing warehouse roof system down to existing metal roof deck, inspection of the deck for possible repair or replacement and/or addition of attachment fasteners, and the installation of a new 2-ply SBS modified roof system.
