About this file
This document contains contractor questions and answers regarding a federal contract opportunity for vegetative land management services at Tuttle Creek Lake in Kansas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking tree clearing, habitat reclamation, and other services as outlined in the performance work statement. Services include clearing approximately 66 acres of trees and seeding around 106 acres at the project site. Contractors should plan to source water independently and not utilize lake water. Seeding requirements specify an average of 3 seedlings per square foot and seeding windows must be followed. The 258 acre site boundary encompasses the work areas which include 66 acres for clearing and 72 acres for seeding. Work on felled trees may continue throughout the summer to eliminate bat habitat. Seeding mixes and rates will vary by supplier but on average should achieve 3 seedlings per square foot. A cover crop is not required.

Contractor Questions for Tuttle Creek Land Management
Will the CORP mark the boundaries or is it obvious –
The boundaries are marked with monuments and yellow posts. If the posts/monuments are missing or cannot be located they can be identified by USACE staff.
Can we pull water from the Lake for the water trucks to use for the clearing, standby while burning, possible hydromulching?
It is recommended that the Contractor plan on not being able to utilize lake water.
Are there expected warranties for the plants and trees?
It is expected that the tree or seed would be established for at least 1 complete growing season. Any seed or tree warranty that is available to the general public should also apply to USACE.
Would the CORP be open to a variance for the seeding season dates, as long as we still guarantee the stand?
We do not allow permanent seeding to occur outside the seeding window.
Will any seeding at the Baldwin Creek Pasture be type 1
There is no seeding requirement for Baldwin Park Pasture area. There is a seeding requirement for the Baldwin Creek area as specified.
Baldwin park pasture clearing does this need seeded as well?
There is not a seeding requirement for Baldwin Park. Within the general sheet notes, sentence 7 refers to “section 5.1.2”, should state “section 5.9”.
Need clarification on acreage PWS says 258 acres, however the maps say 66 acres of clearing and 72 of seeding is the 258 acres just the entire outlineof property and the work is only whats listed as the smaller acres?
As far as the seeding at Stockdale I am seeing approximately 106 acres of seeding and 66 acres of tree removal between drawings C2-C5. The 258 acres is just a sizing of the site area.
Can work be done throughout the summer if the trees are all cut and laying on the ground to eliminate the bat roosting trees?
yes, if the trees have already been cut and laying on the ground the no work period does not apply. The no work applies only to standing trees
How much of each seed variety is required per Mix?
Seeding rates will vary based upon seed supplier. Refer to the attachment for the basic requirements of the mix.
Do they want a cover crop planted with the seed
A cover crop is not required for this project.
Referencing the Performance Work Statement paragraph 5.6 entitled “NATIVE GRASS PLANTINGS” this reads in part “……Seeding should be conducted so there are no bare spot larger than 12” and an average of 3 seedings per square yard.” Is the 3 seedings per square yard correct? If not, please provide the number of seeding per square yard required or the amount of seed required, in pounds, per an area.
Correct this should state “an average of 3 seedlings per square foot.”
