Ensure surfaces are suitable, dry and free of defects and projections which might affect the installation.

3.1.2 Examine primary and secondary roof framing to verify that rafters, purlins, angels, channels, and other structural support members for panels and anchorages have been installed within alignment tolerances required by metal roof panel manufacturer, UL, ASTM, and ASCE 7 requirements.

3.1.3 Examine solid roof sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing or blocking and that installation is within flatness tolerances required by metal roof panel manufacturer.

3.1.4 Examine rough-in for components and systems penetrating metal roof panels to verify actual locations of penetrations relative to seam locations of panels prior to installation.

3.1.5 Submit a written report to the Contracting Officer, endorsed by the installer, listing conditions detrimental to the performance of the work. Proceed with installation only after defects have been corrected.

Note: Do not install items that show visual evidence of biological growth.

Tops of supports or rafters must form a true plane. Ridge members must be of depth equal to cut on rafters where practicable, but in no case less than depth of rafters and nominally 2 inches thick. Rafters must be notched and have full and solid bearing on plates. Ridges must be straight and true intersections of roof planes. Rafters must be spiked to wall plate and to ceiling joists with no less than two 16-penny nails. Rafters must be toe-nailed to members with at least two 16-penny nails. Rafters must be braced to prevent movement until permanent bracing, decking or sheathing is installed. Openings in roof must be framed with headers and trimmers. Unless otherwise indicated, headers carrying more than two rafters and trimmers supporting headers carrying more than one rafter must be double. Install trussed rafters in accordance with TPI HIB.
