1.2.1 Demolition and Deconstruction.

Demolition and deconstruction shall be as shown in the drawings. Refer to specification 02 41 00 DEMOLITION for requirements not provided herein.

1.2.2 Existing Pipe Abandonment

Install pipe plugs as shown in the drawings.

1.2.3 Ductile Iron Pipe Installation

Contractor shall maintain gravity flow through pump station during construction.

New ductile iron pipe and 24-inch coupler shall be placed as shown on the plans. Laying shall proceed upgrade with spigot ends of bell-and-spigot pipe and tongue ends of tongue-and-groove pipe pointing in the direction of the flow. Each pipe shall be thoroughly examined before being laid;

defective or damaged pipe shall not be used.

New ductile iron pipelines shall be laid to the grades and alignment indicated. Proper facilities shall be provided for lowering sections of pipe into trenches. Protect piping and adjacent areas from superimposed and external loads during construction.

Post-installation inspection shall be performed. Visually inspect each segment of new ductile iron pipe for alignment, settlement, joint separations, soil migration through the joint, cracks, buckling, bulging and deflection. An engineer must evaluate all defects to determine if any remediation or repair is required. Replace pipe or repair defects indicated in the Post-Installation Inspection.

1.2.4 Substructure Fill

Fill all below grade sections of pump station with CLSM to within 3 feet from finish grade. Construct aggregate surface to finish grade as shown in drawings.

1.2.5 Grouting

Pipe casing grouting should be accomplished to ensure complete filling of the pipeline without any voids remaining once the grout hardens. The grout should be a non-shrink formulation to ensure that the grout does not shrink during hydration and create voids in the pipeline interior.

1.2.5.1 Non-Shrink Grout Material

Non-shrink grout shall conform to ASTM C1107/C1107M Grade B or C. 1107

Grade B or C. The grout should be a non-shrink, cementitious, nonmetallic, non-corrosive formulation that is suitable for exterior grouting applications. Do not use grouts containing gypsum, metallic particles, or that are formulated for interior use only. The prepackaged non-shrink grout shall be mixed with fresh potable water (city water supply). The prepackage non-shrink grout shall be mixed in accordance with the grout manufacturer's instructions.

1.2.5.2 Grout Installation

Clean Pipeline Interior Bond Surfaces: The pipe interior should be emptied of all contents and debris. Clean the pipe out with water and other non-flammable, non-combustible, cleaning solution as required to remove contaminants from the interior of the pipe. Provide a final fresh water rinse of the pipe to remove any traces of cleaning solution and to provide clean pipe interior. The cleaning and fresh water rinse should be accomplished to ensure that the pipe interior is completely clean to allow the grout to bond to the pipe interior surfaces.

1.3 ITEMS TO REMAIN IN PLACE

Take necessary precautions to avoid damage to existing items to remain in place, to be reused, or to remain the property of the Government. Repair or replace damaged items as approved by the Contracting Officer. See

Specification 02 41 00 DEMOLITION, Article 1.3 for protection of existing items that will remain in place during the abandonment of the National Beef

Pump Station.
