ANSWERS TO RFI 45-46 AS OF DECEMBER 6TH, 2021
45. Question on Steel Grades - We are reviewing requirements for steel grades due to low temperatures in the area of operation. Section C300 states “The hull and deckhouse plating and structure shall be comprised of ABS Grade A Steel.” We understand steel grades other than Grade A could be required when considering design temperatures. Acknowledging
3-1-2/3.5 of MVR on “Ships Exposed to Low Air Temperatures (1 July 2019)”, we respectfully request the exact lowest mean daily average air temperature value in the area of operation (as defined in 3-1-2/3.7 as design temperature tD), to be utilize. In consideration of cost, would a mean temperature above -13F be considered vice -15F?
Question – Please clarify if the requirement in C300 that all structural steel, within hull and deckhouse, can be comprised of ABS Grade A Steel only is correct and the governments intent?
ANSWER: The intent is for the hull and deckhouse plating and structure to be comprised of ABS
Grade A steel only. A mean steel temperature of -13F is acceptable.
46. RFI #29 clarified that email submittals would be acceptable. Please include further email instructions for submittal, as they are not included in the RFI or RFP document.
