About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a federal solicitation for the tainter valve hydraulic cylinder new-build and refurbishment for the John Day Navigation Lock. The solicitation seeks bids to provide new hydraulic cylinders and refurbish four existing tainter cylinders located at the John Day Navigation Lock. Photographs of the existing equipment are provided as an attachment to assist bidders in developing their quotes. Bidders are asked if pictures of the four existing tainter cylinders are available and if they have ever been removed or serviced, as inspecting the internal components would help estimate costs but may not be possible without tearing them down. The solicitation is issued by the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Portland with the number W9127N23Q0077.

Q&A v1.

Question 1.

“Are there pictures of the four (4) existing tainter cylinder available? Have they ever been removed or serviced? As you can imagine, it is super hard to quote cylinders until they are torn down and we can inspect and measure the internal components, but hopeful that some pictures might give us a better feel for the condition. If the rods are exposed in some pictures, it would also be very helpful.”

Answer 1.
