USAMEB UNIT HISTORY

The U.S. Army Marketing and Engagement Brigade (USAMEB) is located at Fort Knox, Kentucky and includes three subordinate battalions: the U.S. Army Accessions Mission Support Battalion (USAAMSB), Fort Knox, Kentucky, the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) Fort Moore, Georgia, and the U.S. Army Parachute Team (USAPT) Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

The brigade was officially formed on 1 October 1997 as the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Area Support Group (Provisional). A year later, on 1 October 1998, the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Area Support Group (Provisional) was officially re-designated the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Area Support Group.

The mission was to provide a single headquarters for the intermediate command and control of small units providing logistical, operational, and production support to recruiting. Effective 1 July 1999, the U.S. Army Recruiting Command Area Support Group was officially re-designated as the U.S. Army Recruiting Support Brigade. On 1 October 2002, the U.S. Army Recruiting Support Brigade was re-designated as the U.S. Army Accessions Support Brigade (USAASB). This re-designation came as a part of the overall standup of the U.S. Army Accessions Command (USAAC), headquartered at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Effective 1 October 2004, the re-designation of the U.S. Army Recruiting Support Brigade to the USAASB became official.

On 1 October 2012, the USAASB was designated as a direct reporting unit to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. The brigade was operationally aligned under the Army Marketing and Research Group at Crystal City, Virginia. The brigade was re-designated in January 2017 by the Secretary of the Army as the U.S. Army Marketing and Engagement Brigade.

On 1 October 2018, the USAMEB was assigned to TRADOC and was further assigned to the U. S. Army Recruiting Command in January 2019.

On 1 October 2024, the USAMEB was assigned to the Army Marketing Enterprise Office (AEMO), USAREC.

MOBILE EXHIBIT PROCESS

All requests are through the G7 quarterly fusion process. Nominations for assets from BN A&PA’s flow through BDE A&PA to G7. Unforecasted requests are submitted through EMM as needed. These requests are dependent on asset availability and event ROI and are approved through

USAREC.

NLT 45 days from the start date, the supported unit submits the F111 through EMM to MSB.

MOBILE EXHIBIT COMPANY BEST PRACTICES

FOR REQUESTING UNITS

1. Verify asset emplacement location. There have been several circumstances where the semi asset is emplacing in accordance with the provided plan by the host unit and venue personnel have informed recruiters that the identified location is not authorized for use.

2. Exhibitors are not recruiters. The primary responsibility of exhibitors is to maintain and operate the asset rather than to recruit potential enlistees. The host unit is responsible for managing crowd control, gathering leads, and recruiting operations. All large assets require four plus additional support personnel (i.e. Recruiters, Cadets, TPU Soldiers or Future Soldiers). Small assets require two plus additional support personnel.

3. Timely submission of FS 111s (Strategic Asset Request). Timely submission of FS111s (NLT 45 days) allows exhibitors to 1. Conduct a map survey of the proposed emplacement location 2. Complete lodging accommodations near the event, and 3. Verify semi-asset travel routes to avoid low bridges and restricted roads due to vehicle height and weight.

4. Exhibitor work/rest cycle. Exhibitors are restricted from traveling after dark to reduce risk to equipment and personnel.

Additionally, exhibitors are restricted to 12 hours per day (this includes trips to events) and must receive a minimum of one day’s rest after working seven consecutive days (both exhibitors are not required to be off at the same time, but the host unit can expect one exhibitor on the 8th day and one exhibitor on the 9th day). Events supported for 10 or more days equals two rest days. Three or more days of consecutive travel equals one rest day.

5. Travel distance between events. Distance between consecutive events cannot exceed 75 miles or two hours of drive time one way (whichever comes first). Any combination of event and travel in the same day will not exceed a 12-hour workday.

6. Site security. Vehicles can only be left overnight in a venue where there is security available, and they have visibility of the asset.

7. Load-in and Load-out times. These are particularly important during fairs. Suppose the asset misses the load in time due to inaccurate information from the host unit. The venue representatives will not allow the asset to proceed into the designated emplacement area, often resulting in event cancellations. Additionally, once the asset is emplaced in the fairgrounds, the venue will not allow loadouts until the event is completed.

8. Movie theater/youth center/malls support. Movie theaters, youth centers, and malls have historically produced a low return on investment. Typical visitors to these venues do not meet age requirements (too young) or are tied to specific event timelines (movie start times or shopping). Avoid booking events around these venues.

9. Multiple assets at one location. Avoid using more than one asset on one location unless it’s a large event and the assets are spread out so as to not have repeat prospects.

10. Shore Power. Three Phase - 208 Volts - 200 AMP Service

11. Parking on non-hardball surfaces. Assets should be parked on hardball/paved, level surfaces. In the event an asset needs to park on sand, grass, non-hardball surfaces, the supported unit will be expected to cover any expenses in the event the asset must be towed out of the provided parking location or causes damage to the provided parking location (ex: gouges in grass). An MFR template stating the above will be provided by the asset Team Chief for applicable events.

HEADQUARTERS TEAM

LEADERSHIP AND LOGISTICS MAKE THE ENTIRE TEAM

SUCCESSFUL

The Headquarters Team is responsible for the leadership, organization, scheduling, logistics, and media relations for the Golden Knights’ mission. This behind the scenes work gets the teams to where they need to be, and makes it possible for them to put on an amazing show of professionalism.

AVIATION DETACHMENT

DEDICATED AIR AND GROUND CREWS MAKE THE SUCCESS POSSIBLE

The Golden Knights Aviation Team, known as “Team 6”, is responsible for operating and maintaining the Golden Knights’ fleet of aircraft. The Golden Knights rely on a dedicated ground and air crew to maintain the aircraft used during performances and competitions. Currently, the Golden Knights utilize the C-147A “Dash 8” and the UV-18 De Havilland “Twin Otter.”

C-147A DASH 8-315 SERIES

The C-147A has been the flagship and primary support aircraft for the Golden Knights’ Black and Gold Demonstration Teams since 2018. The aircraft has been modified with troop seats and a large door that is used during jump operations.

This aircraft is powered by two Pratt and Whitney 123B engines capable of producing 2250 shaft house power each. The C-147A is manned by a crew of three Soldiers, 2 pilots and 1 crew chief.

UV-18 DE HAVILLAND TWIN OTTER

The UV-18 De Havilland is the primary support aircraft for the Golden Knights’ Competition and Tandem Teams. This Short Take-Off and Landing aircraft is powered by two Pratt and Whitney PT6-27 turbine engines and is capable of dispersing up to 14 parachutists very quickly from takeoff. The performance capabilities of the UV-18 De Havilland allows for multiple training jumps to be conducted during the duty day, which allows the Golden Knights Competition Team to prepare more efficiently for national and worldwide competition.

MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT TEAMS

The Golden Knights support team is comprised of a maintenance NCOIC and four enlisted helicopter maintainers/crew chiefs (MOS 15 T/U). Soldiers are assigned to the Golden Knights maintenance and support teams only after a thorough review of their service records, performance history, and completion of an interview/board process.

INTERNATIONAL SHOTGUN TEAM

The International Shotgun Team competes in national, international and Olympic competitions. Soldiers compete in the international trap and skeet disciplines. The team’s most important matches include the World Championships, National Championships, World Cups and the Olympics.

These competitions also enable the team to connect America’s people with America’s Army in unique ways that support the overall Army accessions mission, and raise the Army’s combat readiness.

INTERNATIONAL RIFLE TEAM

The International Rifle Team specializes in two Olympic style rifle disciplines with more than 80 world records and countless medals at the Olympics, Pan American Games, World Championships, and World Cups. They are technical experts who also conduct rifle marksmanship instruction for Soldiers across the Army.

The Air Rifle event is fired from the standing position at 10 meters.

Competitors engage a target that is the size of a period in size twelve font.

The projectile fired is a .177 caliber pellet.

The .22 caliber small bore free-rifle is fired at a distance of 50 meters.

Competitors fire from the kneeling, prone, and standing positions engaging a target that is 10.4mm in diameter.

Ultimately, competing in and winning these events enables the International Rifle Team to share the knowledge gained from these competitions with the broader Army in an effort to increase the Army’s combat readiness.

SERVICE PISTOL

The Service Pistol Team owns several championships and national records, dominating at conventional and action pistol events. They provide training throughout the Department of Defense while also playing a vital role in connecting with the American people.

The Service Pistol Team is under Congressional mandate and tasked with the responsibility of conducting the Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) at the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each year.

SERVICE RIFLE TEAM

The Service Rifle Team primarily competes with an accurized version of the M16A2 rifle at distances of 200 to 1000 yards. Select members of the team also compete with bolt-action rifles equipped with both telescopic and aperture sights from 800 to 1000 yards.

Ultimately, competing in and winning the Interservice and National Championship matches, as well as numerous local, state, and regional championships enables the Service Rifle Team to share the knowledge gained from these competitions with the broader Army in an effort to increase the Army’s combat readiness. These competitions also enable the team to connect America’s people with America’s Army in unique ways that support the overall Army accessions mission and subsequently raise the Army’s combat readiness.

The Service Rifle Team enhances the Army’s recruiting effort by interacting with the public at the Small Arms Firing School (SAFS). SAFS is conducted in conjunction with the National Matches. Initiated in 1903, and mandated by US Code, SAFS is a program of instruction designed to instruct civilians in the use of the current Service Rifle (M16A2) and Service Pistol (M9). SAFS consists of a period of classroom instruction by the instructors of the Service Rifle Team, followed by hands-on range firing and a modified Excellence in Competition match.

ACTION SHOOTING TEAM

If shooting has an “extreme” category, then action shooting is it. Hustling as fast as they can, competitors negotiate obstacles, speed-reload, and fire razor accurate shots on target.

In competition, Soldiers of the Action Shooting Team are measured by their ability to shoot rapidly and accurately with a pistol, rifle and/or shotgun. Shooters take on obstacle shooting courses, requiring six to thirty plus accurate shots. The scoring system measures points scored per second, and then weighs the score to compensate for the number of shots fired. Both speed and accuracy are equally important. A fast run with inaccurate hits is just as detrimental to a competitor’s score as perfect shots and a slow time. The key to success is a balance of speed and accuracy.

With these competitions similar to combat engagements, the Action Shooting Team is regularly utilized as instructors to help improve small arms lethality across the force.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING GROUP

The Instructor Training Group Soldiers serve as the primary instructors in support of the USAMU’s mission to improve small arms lethality.

Made up of combat veterans with a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience, the Instructor Training Group Soldiers conduct tailored marksmanship training courses wherever they are asked to go.

These mobile training teams provide effective marksmanship training courses and subject matter expertise to assist commanders in achieving their mission.
