W91242-18-B-0994 Questions & Answers #2

14. Will the canopy installer be responsible for the repair of roof penetrations approximately ( 31 )

Answer: Penetrations are not required. Run the conduit tight to the underside of the structure and hide behind columns where possible. Paint the conduits to match finish color of canopy as indication by note 2 on sheet E100. GC must submit color samples for approval. Provide UL Master Label for lightning protection and a third party inspection per AFI32-1065.

15. How and where does the canopy drain?

Answer: Provide gutters and downspouts per canopy designer's recommendation. Downspouts to direct water to existing curb and gutter system and directing the water to not create ponding/ice in dangerous areas. Submit shop drawings for approval.

16. Sheet C300 calls out to see detail C4 on sheet C400 for patching concrete sidewalk detail but detail C4 on sheet C400 is not available. Please advise.

Answer: Sidewalk is 4” thick, 3600psi, non-reinforced concrete.

17. What size is the water line we are relocating?

Answer: 2” copper

18. The footers are an unusual design. We understand that the footing design is not our responsibility and we will supply the reaction loads the canopy columns will apply to the footer for whomever will be designing it. However, we do need to know if the footer is to be a pin base design column or if a fixed base column can be used. This affects how we design the canopy.

Answer: Canopy columns should be designed as pin base with no moment transfer into foundations.

19. The fascia that is called for in part 2.4 of section 13 3420 - Metal Canopies, is not standard to the canopy industry. The highest performing system and appropriate for this project is Aluminum Composite Material (ACM). We regularly use Reynobond from Alcoa; there are several other manufacturers. Please confirm this is an acceptable alternative.

Answer: Reynobond Architectural Composite Material (ACM), or equal from another manufacturer is acceptable.

20. Painting: Do the roof members above the panels require finish paint? They will come primed, we believe.

Answer: Yes, requires paint. See updated attached paint specs 09 90 00. Coordinate with the government for all color selections.

21. If the report is required of the contractor, should each pile location be bored?

Answer: A geotechnical report is not available, but will be required of the contractor to submit to the Government. Contractor may provide soil borings or test pile installations as they feel needed. Ultimately, the helical pile installation depth for each pile will be based on the actual minimum installation torque that correlates with the required pile capacities.
