Text version

Question: Work Item C-320 states that access holes in the hull will not be allowed. This is referring to the dewatering of the tanks. Normally when tanks get blasted/painted there are access holes cut in the bottom shell for additional access, ventilation and possibly dehumidification purposes. Will the USACE allow access holes to be cut for access while the tanks are being blasted/painted?

Answer: USACE will not allow access holes to be cut in the tanks for blasting and cleaning. Please note that in addition to the hatches accessing the tanks, each ballast tank has, as a minimum, one 8 inch tank vent. See drawing #550-D660-01, sheet #2.
