1. Shall be of a commercially manufactured type. 41
2. Do not use nonfabricated wire. 42
03100 - 2
3. Use form ties constructed so ends or end fasteners can be removed without causing 1 appreciable spalling of concrete faces. 2
4. After ends or end fasteners of form ties have been removed, embedded portion of ties shall 3 terminate not less than 2 diameters or twice minimum dimension of tie from formed faces of 4 concrete to be permanently exposed to view, but in no case less than 3/4 IN. 5

E. At construction joints, contact surface of form sheathing for flush surfaces exposed to view shall 20 overlap hardened concrete in previous placement minimum 1 IN. 21
1. Hold forms against hardened concrete to prevent offsets or loss of mortar at construction 22 joint and to maintain a true surface. 23
F. Construct wood forms for wall openings to facilitate loosening, if necessary, to counteract 24 swelling. 25
G. Fasten wedges (used for final adjustment of forms prior to concrete placement) in position after 26 final check. 27

PART 3 - EXECUTION 42
3.1 PREPARATION OF FORM SURFACES 43
A. Clean form surfaces and embedded materials of mortar, grout and foreign material before 44 concrete is placed. 45
03100 - 4
B. Unless otherwise specified or approved, treat surfaces of forms as follows: 1
1. Before placing of reinforcing steel or concrete, cover surfaces of forms with coating 2 material that will effectively prevent absorption of moisture and prevent bond with concrete, 3 and not stain concrete. 4
a. A field applied form release agent or sealer or factory applied nonabsorptive liner may 5 be used. 6
2. Do not allow excess form coating material to stand in puddles in forms nor in contact with 7 hardened concrete against which fresh concrete is to be placed. 8
3.2 REMOVAL OF FORMS 9
A. When repair of surface defects or finishing is required at early age, remove forms as soon as 10 concrete has hardened sufficiently to resist damage from removal operations. 11
B. Remove top forms on sloping surfaces of concrete as soon as concrete has attained sufficient 12 stiffness to prevent sagging. 13
1. Perform needed repairs or treatment required on such sloping surfaces at once, followed by 14 specified curing. 15
C. Loosen wood forms for wall openings as soon as this can be accomplished without damage to 16 concrete. 17
D. Formwork for columns, walls, sides of beams, and other parts not supporting weight of concrete 18 may be removed as soon as concrete has hardened sufficiently to resist damage from removal. 19
E. Where no reshoring is planned, leave forms and shoring used to support weight of concrete in 20 beams, slabs and other concrete members in place until concrete has attained its specified 21 strength. 22
1. Where reshoring is planned, supporting formwork may be removed when concrete has 23 reached 70 percent of specified strength, provided reshoring is installed immediately. 24
F. When shores and other vertical supports are arranged so non-load-carrying form-facing material 25 may be removed without loosening or disturbing shores and supports, facing material may be 26 removed at earlier age as permitted. 27
3.3 RESHORING 28
A. When reshoring is permitted or required, plan operations in advance. 29
1. While reshoring is underway, allow no live load on new construction. 30
B. During reshoring do not subject concrete in beam, slab, column or other structural member to 31 combined dead and construction loads in excess of loads permitted by Contracting Officer for 32 developed concrete strength at time of reshoring. 33
1. Place reshores as soon as practicable after stripping operations are complete but in no case 34 later than end of working day on which stripping occurs. 35
2. Tighten reshores to carry required loads without overstressing construction. 36
3. Leave reshores in place until: 37
a. Tests representative of concrete being supported have reached specified strength. 38
b. In-place concrete is at least 7 days old. 39
c. Loads imposed by construction operations do not exceed design loads. 40
C. For floors supporting shores under newly placed concrete leave original supporting shores in 41 place or reshore. 42
1. Reshoring system shall have capacity sufficient to resist anticipated loads and equal to at 43 least one half of capacity of shoring system above. 44
2. Locate reshores directly under shore position above unless otherwise permitted. 45
03100 - 5
3.4 REMOVAL STRENGTH 1
A. When removal of formwork or reshoring is based on concrete reaching specified strength, 2 concrete shall be presumed to have reached this strength when either of following conditions has 3 been met. 4
1. When test cylinders, field cured along with concrete they represent, have reached specified 5 strength. 6
2. When concrete has been cured as specified for same length of time as age at test date of 7 laboratory-cured cylinders which reached specified strength. 8
a. Determine length of time concrete has been cured in structure by cumulative number of 9 days or fractions thereof, not necessarily consecutive, during which temperature of air 10 in contact with concrete is above 50 DegF and concrete has been damp or sealed from 11 evaporation and loss of moisture. 12
