About this file
This is a Revised Product Description document that corrects specifications for a critical replacement component in a federal solicitation. The original specification for an 8MP 30X CMOS sensor with an optical field of view (FOV) ranging from 75 to 1.18 degrees was identified as erroneous by the manufacturer. Mathematical analysis revealed the specifications were mathematically inconsistent—a 75-degree FOV divided by 1.18-degree FOV yields approximately 63.5X zoom capability, not 30X zoom. The manufacturer confirmed that no commercially available 8MP module with these exact specifications exists.
The government acknowledged the error and revised the specification based on the FLIR M460, which represents the logical next-generation upgrade from their existing FLIR camera system. The FLIR M460 provides the following corrected capabilities: 8MP resolution with 4K recording (3840 x 2160 @ 30fps), 25X optical zoom with 12X digital zoom capability, horizontal field of view of 2.4 to 49.5 degrees, and low-light performance of 0.4 lux (ICR off) and 0.06 lux (ICR on). The revised specification maintains compatibility with existing reconnaissance equipment and software infrastructure. The solicitation (W911YN26QA016) is issued by the Department of the Army Florida Army National Guard, with an amended closing date of August 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM EDT. The overall requirement remains a commercial off-the-shelf HD marine observation camera system with two-axis gyro stabilization, thermal imaging, laser rangefinding, and integrated command and control software.

Revised Product Description
Feedback received by manufacturer: There is one spec in particular that I believe was likely added by mistake. An 8MP 30X CMOS sensor with optical FOV of 75° to 1.18°. I have done extensive searching and cannot find a commercially available model which actually matches these specs. To get a 30X zoom factor your wide FOV divided by your narrow FOV should equal 30. If we take this spec, 75 and divide it by 1.18 we get 63.5593, so ~63X zoom, not 30X zoom. I ran some tests in our lens calculator, and our 8MP 49X zoom module if paired with an incorrect 1/2.8" sensor rather than a 1/1.8" sensor would provide the narrow FOV of 1.18° at its max focal length of 272mm, however even then, at the wide focal length, it would only provide 52.97° wide FOV. Either this spec was based on a custom zoom module the FLIR has but doesn't advertise, or there was an error made when specifying this 8MP 30X module.
Revised Product Description based on manufacturer feedback:
I agree that the 8MP 30X power field of view requirement is an error on our part. We based our initial research on the FLIR M460 specifications. We already have a FLIR camera, and we viewed this as the next logical upgrade within our planned budget. We know that the FLIR hardware and software is compatible with all our other reconnaissance equipment.
Here are the specs for the FLIR M460:
| Ultra Low Light | 8 MP | |
| Resolution | 4k 3840 x 2160 @ 30fps | |
| HFOV [°] | 2.4 - 49.5 | |
| Zoom [X] | 25x optical, 12x digital | |
| Low light [Lux] | 0.4 lux (ICR off) / 0.06 lux (ICR on) |
