SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION 00800 - SPECIAL CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS

The following have been added by full text:

AMENDMENT 0003

Q33. Division 2, section 31 6333, Micropiles, paragraph 2,1,2 requires that surface of casing be roughened or prepared as required "to obtain the required minimum ultimate grout bond strength, Drawing S-3125 does not show any surface treatment or required ultimate bond strength, What surface preparation is required?

A33. See Question 24 (Q24)

Q34. Division 2, section 31 6333, Micropiles, paragraph 2,2,1 requires that casing joints develop 100% of the tensile strength of the casing, This is only nearly possible by using external couplers, since welding of N-80 casing requires special treatment.

Will industry typical flush joint threads be acceptable and this requirement waived?

A34. See Question 24 (Q24). Note restrictions on location of joints with use of typical threaded flush joints.

Q35. Division 2, section 31 6333, Micropiles, paragraph 3,2,3 essentially requires duplex drilling with water for the soil stratum, Drawing S-3125 requires a 9 inch hole in rock, Therefore, drilling with larger temporary casing and a larger corehole in the abutment wall seems to be required, Division 2, section 31 6333, Micropiles, paragraph 3.2.9 requires water testing of the rock portion and then grouting and redrilling. With full length 7 inch casing, this will require oversized temporary casing which may become grouted in place. Is temporary casing really intended? Can a smaller rock socket of equivalent structural strength and perimeter surface area be substituted?

A35. See Question 24 (Q24). Also, note that any Contractor-proposed alternative micropile configuration will have to be submitted in writing for Government approval, and must include a statement of the minimum dimensions that will be achieved, supporting calculations demonstrating equivalence to the configuration on the Contract Drawings, and detailed descriptions of the planned drilling methods, micropile construction sequence, and installation procedures (with attention to procedures for watertightness testing of the rock zone [with or without a pregrouting and redrilling phase], and effective grouting of the casing into the rock socket and through the existing abutment wall).

Q36. USACE response to Q23 indicates that they have the same predicament that the contractors have regarding material quantities. In fairness to the contractors and to insure that

W911WN-09-B-0007

USACE receives similar, responsive bids from all contractors, assumed bid quantities should be provided.

A36. See Amendment 0001 Question 23 (Q23).

Q37. Please clarify Note 6 on Sheet S-11-32. What is the expected quantity and how is additional Rip Rap to be paid?

A37. See Amendment 0001 Question 23 (Q23).

Q38. What is the schedule for gate activity for the main channel? This affects the backchannel flow.

A38. See Amendment 0001 Question 1 (Q1).

Q39. Specification 3.2.2 31-68-13 Page 12 seems to require core drilling (Shall) but leaves options. Could you please clarify?

A39. See Amendment 0002 Question 26 (Q26)

Q40. Section 31-62-23.13 Page 9, 3.2.1, if a casing cannot be driven due to a deep obstruction, how will drilling out to remove the obstruction and/or replacing and redrilling casing be paid?

A40. See Amendment 0001 Question 14 (Q14) and Question 15 (Q15).
