About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Fire Extinguisher Maintenance dated June 9, 2025, providing critical details about a potential service contract with Fort Riley. The document reveals 18 extinguisher units are due for a 6-year tear-down service, with zero units currently requiring hydrostatic or demilling services. The Amerex Model 490 units are stored pressure extinguishers, and Fort Riley representatives will deliver them to the contractor's service location within 150 straightline miles. Most units are expected to be in an operational state, with only a few potentially discharged accidentally or from previous fire events. The Q&A also clarifies that hydrostatic testing is not currently required for any units, with most needing only standard 6-year maintenance. Accompanying images show a red, wheeled fire extinguisher with black hoses, mounted on a mobile frame, positioned on a concrete surface with markings.

Fire Extinguisher Maintenance Questions and Answers:

1. Question: Will the extinguishers be delivered or will we need to pick them up?

a. Answer: The Fire extinguishers would be driven to the contractor service location by representatives of Fort Riley. The closer that location is to Fort Riley, the better, so that our people don’t have to drive as far. As it stands, we would be looking for a distance of no more than 150 straightline Miles away from Fort Riley, Kansas.

2. Question: How many Extinguishers are due for the 6- year service, the hydrostatic 12-year service, and Demilling?

a. Answer: Currently, 18 Extinguisher units are due for a 6-year tear-down service. Currently, zero Extinguisher units are due for Hydrostatic or Demilling Services.

3. Question: Can you please confirm whether the Amerex Model 490 Units are stored Pressure or Cartridge operated?

a. Answer: The extinguishers are stored pressure

4. Question: Are the units currently discharged, or should we assume some of all may arrive in a discharged state?

a. Answer: Some units may be discharged by accident or because of a fire but the vast majority will not be discharged.

5. Question: Are any of the units already due for hydrostatic testing, or is this to be determined during inspection?

a. Answer: At this time none are due for a Hydrostatic Test (12 years from

Manufacture date or 7 years after 1st Hydrostatic test). Most will be needing just a 6-year tear-down service.

6. Question: Would it be possible to receive photos of the extinguisher to help verify configuration and conditions?
