About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document for a Portable Data Acquisition System Configuration that has been certified as commercially available. The system must meet eleven key technical specifications covering sampling capabilities, analog input processing, sensor measurement flexibility, power management, connectivity, and software integration.

The primary technical requirements include a minimum sampling rate of 2 million samples per second (2 MS/s) per channel with simultaneous multi-channel capability and 24-bit analog-to-digital resolution. The analog input bandwidth must span from direct current (DC) to 2 megahertz (MHz) with hardware anti-aliasing filters and programmable digital filters. The system must support multiple measurement modes via software selection, including strain gauge bridges (full, half, and quarter configurations), voltage inputs up to ±100 volts, integrated electronics piezoelectric sensors (IEPE/ICP), charge inputs, resistance measurement up to 30 kilohms, resistance temperature detectors (RTD), thermocouples, and current inputs up to ±30 milliamps. Additional requirements include per-channel programmable excitation voltage (0-24 VDC) and current (100 microamps to 60 milliamps), galvanic isolation across all measurement channels, and a modular portable architecture with interchangeable measurement modules providing minimum eight isolated channels each within portable front-end units accommodating at least two modules.

The system must operate on isolated DC power (11-32 VDC) with external AC adapter support, feature Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0 connectivity with minimum two local area network ports, support multi-unit hardware synchronization via dedicated bus, include auxiliary digital inputs for controller area network (CAN) and counter/event channels, and provide integrated vendor-supplied acquisition and analysis software with real-time display and data export capabilities. Delivery to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland is required within 75 days after contract award. The Contracting Officer is Zachary Dowling.

Technical Point of Contact (TPOC)

The Government requires a Portable Data Acquisition System Configuration that meets the following minimum specifications:

1. The Sampling Rate and Resolution shall have:

• Minimum 2,000,000 samples per second (2 MS/s) per channel, simultaneous across all active channels

• Minimum 24-bit analog-to-digital resolution per channel

2. The Analog Input Bandwidth shall have:

• Minimum analog input bandwidth of direct current (DC) to 2 megahertz (MHz)

• Must include a hardware anti-aliasing filter active at or below the Nyquist frequency

• Must support freely programmable digital low-pass and high-pass filters per channel

3. The Multi-Mode Input Flexibility (per channel, without hardware changes) shall:

Each channel must support all of the following measurement modes via software selection:

• Strain gauge bridge: full bridge, half bridge, and quarter bridge; compatible with

120 ohm (Ω), 350 Ω, and 1000 Ω gauges; sensitivity up to 1000 millivolt/Volt (mV/V)

• Voltage: DC and alternating current (AC) voltage input up to ±100 V

• Integrated electronics piezo-electric / integrated circuit piezo-electric

(IEPE/ICP): integrated electronics piezoelectric sensor support (for blast pressure and shock accelerometers)

• Charge input: direct charge measurement (via plug-in signal conditioner)

• Resistance: up to 30 kΩ

• Resistance temperature detector (RTD): resistive temperature device (e.g., Platinum 100 (Pt100), Pt1000, up to Pt2000)

• Thermocouple: standard thermocouple types

• Current: up to ±30 milliamp (mA) via internal shunt

4. Programmable Sensor Excitation shall have:

• Per-channel programmable excitation voltage: 0 to 24 VDC

• Per-channel programmable excitation current: 100 microamp (µA) to 60 mA minimum range

5. Channel Electrical Isolation shall have:

• All measurement channels must be galvanically isolated from each other and from chassis ground

6. Modular, Portable Form Factor shall have:

• System must use a modular architecture in which measurement modules are physically interchangeable within a portable chassis/front-end

• Each front-end unit must accommodate a minimum of two (2) measurement modules

• Each measurement module must provide a minimum of eight (8) isolated channels

• Individual units must be man-portable for field deployment without vehicle support

7. Power Supply Input shall have:

• System must operate from an isolated DC power input in the range of 11 to 32 VDC (vehicle battery or portable battery compatible)

• Must also accept an external AC power adapter for laboratory or fixed-facility use

8. Digital Connectivity and Data Transfer shall have:

• Must support Gigabit Ethernet (1 GbE) for high-throughput data streaming to a host personal computer (PC) or networked recording system

• Must support universal serial bus (USB) 3.0 as a secondary connectivity option
