Scales must be inspected, tested and sealed as directed to assure accuracy with

0.5 percent throughout the range of the scales. Certify scales located at the site of the work as to accuracy by an acceptable scales company representative prior to weighing any riprap. Scales will be checked and certified before riprap hauling and rechecked and recertified whenever a variance is suspected. If commercial scales are readily available in close proximity, within 30 miles of site of work, the Contracting Officer may approve the use of the scales. Weigh riprap in the presence of the Government representative. The Contracting Officer may elect to accept certified weight certificates furnished by a public weighmaster in lieu of scale weights at the jobsite.

3.3.2 Haul Roads and Loading Ramps

Moose Creek Landing Road is the designated haul route to the Tanana Sill Groin. The use of any other existing roads for hauling must be coordinated with Federal, State and Local agencies. It is the Contractor's responsibility to acquire all permits and easements for use of existing roads or for construction of new haul roads or loading ramps.

The stockpile site AM#1...may...AM#1 require road improvements and construction of a truck route to facilitate traffic flow during stockpile operations. All road improvements at the stockpile location may remain upon completion of the project.

AM#1. . . Sprinkling or similar methods must be employed to control dust. Dust control must be performed as the work proceeds and whenever a dust nuisance or hazard occurs. There must be no visible dust coming off the work site at any time, or from any vehicle hauling for the contractor.

In addition the contractor must ensure that no material of any type will fall off any vehicle while in transit. Any dirt or mud, which is tracked onto paved or surfaced roadways, must be cleaned away within the day it is deposited. Trailers must be anchored to resist high winds and meet applicable state or local standards for anchoring mobile trailers. Coordinate anchoring with EM 385-1-1 Section 04.

During times the Contractor is actively working the project, equipment is permitted to be left alongside the road. If the Contractor chooses to leave equipment parked in this manner during non-work hours, it is at their own risk.

3.4.1 Administrative Field Offices

Provide and maintain administrative field office facilities within the construction area at the designated site. Government office and warehouse facilities will not be available to the Contractor's personnel.

SECTION 01 50 00 Page 8 rock will be necessary if results meet the requirements specified, and a continuous visual geologic examination of the rock by the Government indicates no change in rock type or quality for rock passing the laboratory tests. Rock exhibiting significant changes in type or quality will be rejected unless additional testing shows that the rock meets the specified requirements.

2.4 ROCK GRADATION, SIZE, AND ANGULARITY

2.4.1 General

The rock, after processing, must be angular and conform to the size requirements indicated below. The length of any piece of rock must not be greater than 2.5 times the lesser of the breadth or thickness. Operations of loading, hauling or stockpiling must be conducted in a manner which will minimize breakage.

a. Rock for the groin repair and for stockpiling must conform to AKDOTP&F gradation for Class IV riprap:

50-100% weighing 2000 pounds or more 0-15% weighing up to 400 pounds 0-10% weighing more than 5400 pounds

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 PRODUCTION TESTING

The Contractor must perform the following minimum Production Rock Gradation, Size, and Angularity Tests. Samples must be taken at the source of the materials. The COR will accompany the Contractor and observe and agree to the selection of the rock samples for testing. No failing tests will count toward meeting the minimum number of representative tests. Tests must be evenly spaced throughout production.

Tests must be by actual weighing. Results must be provided to the COR within 24 hours, or sooner if requested. The gradation testing must be conducted at the quarry or rock source location. Gradation tests must be performed in accordance with ASTM D 5519 , Test Method B.

Perform at least 1 representative test for each Class of riprap. The COR may request an additional (1) test at any time during production.

Each sample of Class IV riprap must be approximately 54 tons.

3.2 PLACEMENT FOR GROIN REPAIRS

Rock will be placed to the full thickness shown on the drawings. Rocks will be placed in such a manner as to produce a well-keyed mass of rock with individual pieces tightly in contact with each surrounding stone, and with the least practicable amount of void spaces. The finished surface must be free from pockets of single size rock. Placement of small rock to chink the spaces between large rock, or for leveling the surface, will not be permitted. Rock will not be placed on snow, ice, or debris. AM#1...

During the site visit it was mentioned that woody and silt debris would require removal from the existing rock slope prior to placement of rip rap. This requirement is not mentioned in the plans or specifications. The downstream end, particularly around the bull nose, has filled in with silt to approximate elevation 508. Please clarify whether this will be required, the extents, and how this work will be measured and paid as much is below the water surface and not visible.

On: Jul 20 2021.

Government Response. . Debris removal is addressed in Section 35 31 19 however removal of debris below the water surface will not be required. At the nose of the groin, the toe of the revetment is the surface of the ground so the riprap will placed on the silt. On: Jul 22 2021
