SUMMARY OF CHANGES
Questions and Answers During Solicitation
Amendment AM0002
Date of Question(s): 18 August, 2010
Question 201: The specification states in section 35 59 13.19 Sub 2.5: Fender shall be Fentek
Model AN 500, energy index E1, length as shown or approved equal. Our Fentek fender AN 500, E1.0 references a fender made from a Synthetic Rubber (SBR) not the EPDM referenced in Sub 2.2. Please clarify the material.
Answer 201: Please see replacement section 35 59 13.19, which is part of this amendment
(AM0002).
Date of Question(s): 23 August, 2010
Question 202: We need clarification regarding soft metric conversions and rebar. Specification
00 31 10, paragraph 1.3.2 C is clear regarding the disposition of most components (ie bolts, weld size, etc.) measured in mm. However, rebar is called out as a #, not in millimeters. Almost the entire float reinforcing design calls out #10. Please confirm that this means a #3 English size. If we round up to an English #4 size, it will add 80% more rebar to the job.
Answer 202: Please see ASTM A615/A615M, Table 1, where inch-pound and SI unit bar numbers are shown under the first column, which is titled “Bar Designation No.”
The SI bar designation numbers [shown in brackets] refer to bars with the same physical dimensions as the inch-pound unit equivalent bars. Concur that #10 in SI units is the same as #3 in inch-pound units, and similarly for: #13 and #4; #16 and #5; #19 and #6; and so forth. The solicitation documents remain unchanged as a result of this question.
Question 203: Specification 03 31 29, paragraph 2.2.5.6 references corrosion inhibitor admixture. There is not a reference in the rest of the specification mandating the use of corrosion inhibitor in the concrete mix. Please confirm corrosion inhibitor is NOT required. This is a large cost item.
Answer 203: Corrosion inhibitor admixture is not a required admixture, but may be used to achieve the durability requirements specified. The solicitation documents remain unchanged as a result of this question.
