This document contains questions and answers regarding clarifications to a statement of work for a museum renovation project. The project involves demolishing wood wall base and window frames in exhibit halls, vestibules, and corridors to expose concrete masonry units. Ductwork, pipes, and conduits near ceilings throughout the renovation areas are to be painted black, excluding any conduits connected to fire alarm systems. Paint is also to be applied to the chains supporting pendant light fixtures.

Question Answer

With all wood base remaining now, are you sure that by removing just the wood quarter round that the VCT does not extend under the base itself?

Note 6 & 7 sheet A‐102. How are we supposed to bid vinyl or wood if we don’t know what’s there?

DEMOLISH WOOD WALL BASE ON STONE AND CMU WALLS IN THE EXHIBIT HALL, VESTIBULE, AND CORRIDOR LEADING TO SOUTH ENTRANCE. THE FORMER WINDOW RECESSES WILL LEAVE THE EXISTING CMU EXPOSED. SEE THE ATTACHED REVISED DRAWINGS FOR

FURTHER INFORMATION.

Concern regarding potential amount of hidden work that could be exposed to view once the gun mounting wall is demolished.

SEE PHOTO 8 AND 9 ON SHEET A‐902, AND SEE REVISED DRAWINGS DATED 27 JULY 2021. 5 OPENINGS ARE INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS WITH CONSTRUCTION SIMILAR TO THOSE IN PHOTOS 8 AND 9. THE OTHER OPENINGS BEHIND THE GUN WALL HAVE ELEMENTS OF THE REMOVED WOOD WINDOW FRAMES, SIMILAR TO THE FORMER WINDOW OPENINGS VISIBLE FROM THE EXHIBIT HALL. DEMOLISH THE FORMER WOOD WINDOW FRAMES REMAINING IN THE OPENING. THE BACK OF THE CMU IS TO REMAIN EXPOSED.

Should ductwork and all items adjacent to the ceiling to be painted black as well?

SEE SHEET A‐102 GENERAL NOTES 1. “PAINTING REQUIREMENTS” WHERE IT STATES: “CEILING ‐ PAINT THE CEILING IN THE EXHIBIT HALL AND VESTIBULE CEILINGS, INCLUDING EXPOSED DUCTS, PIPES, AND CONDUITS. DO NOT PAINT THE PENDANT LIGHT FIXTURES, BUT DO PAINT THE CHAINS THAT THE LIGHT FIXTURES ARE SUSPENDED BY.” PAINT EVERYTHING NEAR THE CEILING, UNLESS THE CONDUITS OR JUNCTION BOXES ARE CONNECTED TO THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. SEE THE “CONDUIT PAINTING EXCEPTION” OF THE SAME GENERAL NOTE

1. FOR HOW TO HANDLE THAT CONDITION.
