We would like to augur a hole of equivalent diameter as the Drawings indicate, set the rebar, and pour the concrete directly into the augured hole. Versus larger excavation and forming the concrete bases. Please advise.
18. Answer: Foundations shall be per manufacturer’s instructions per Detail A-1 on Sheet C2.1.
19. Question: Scope - Crash Rated Cable - Can we install anchoring system in the Columns – As we review the Drawings, there is a cable, anti-penetration, collision cable that is required to be installed as part of the AmeriStar system. We understand that fully engineered AmeriStar, anti-penetration, collision cable was connected to larger steel bollards system, concrete filled (not part of this design).
The current design replaces the bollards with the Column system (Key Note "A" and "B" from Drawings Pg. 3 of 4). But in the current design basis there is no anchoring system for the cable to the columns.
We would propose anchors installed as part of the columns system when pouring the concrete on interior of the CMUs and complete the brick veneer after the anchors have been installed. 29. Answer: 90 mph
30. Question: After speaking with Ameristar, the recommendation is to install bollards per Ameristar design because to maintain the crash rating the 1" internal steel cable system needs to be in the posts and bollards. If we were to build in this way then you could make the brick decretive pillars built around the 6" bollards and 4" posts and leave 2 -4 pickets off each panel to accommodate building the decorative brick. IF they are looking to have a decorative fence that is not CR8 etc, you could install IMPASSE II or similar between concrete posts as shown no problem, it just would not have a CRASH rating.
30. Answer: See Answer to Question 19.
31. Question: Also, the man gate is shown in a 8' opening and any opening greater than 4' negates the crash rating of the fence and will likely need a ty metal specialty door frame and door so the steel cable can go over the header and in the posts for the gate.
31. Answer: It DOES NEED Special Metal door and Frame, With buried footings below welded frame rails.
See detail A-11 sheet C2.2 “Ameristar EXODUS Series” door and frame. Install per manufacturer's recommendations, if the recommendations include an additional cable over the door header it shall be required.
32. Question: For how large this project is I have reached out to CLD systems as they have a comparable K8 rated system that requires smaller amount of concrete which on a job this size could really change the total budget.
32. Answer: See Specification Section 01 60 00 regarding Materials, Equipment, and Substitutions. No evaluations of potential equal products shall be made during the bidding process.
33. Question: Do you have a concrete company that you prefer to use in this area? I would love to include them for the caging / concrete numbers with all the additives per the spec etc. I will send it to my local Atlanta company as they may still have competitive rates for the Chattanooga market, but I also like using local when I can.
33. Answer: No.
34. Question: For the repair of the aluminized fence, most of it was from washout, We could un-install, re-set posts- re-install. The aluminized fence material is $500-$650 a roll just for the fabric. The best option is to move the fence to the top of the hill, so the washout does not happen but would need to be approved. Without further Civil change / drainage the water shed will continue to cause washout under the fence +/- 10 years.
34. Answer: Changes to the Bid Documents cannot be considered at this time. The successful bidder may propose this as an RFP, after award.
H:\USPFO\47.191 - Construct 241st Security Measures\10-Bidding\Re-Bid Questions\Re-Bid Questions #1.docx
