OPR: 125 MXG/MXQ Certified by: 125 MXG/MXQ (CMS Michael L. Davis)

Supersedes 125 MOI 21-13, 12 September 2013 Pages: 8

The purpose of this Maintenance Operating Instruction (MOI) is to establish policy, procedures, and responsibility for corrosion control of aircraft, aircraft systems and support equipment. It identifies a Senior Non Commissioned Officer (SNCO) as the Unit Corrosion

Manager (UCM). It establishes corrosion control training for all personnel involved in aircraft and Support Equipment (SE) maintenance. This operating instruction ensures wash facilities and back shop areas are properly managed with proper wash equipment and that only approved materials are used. It assigns work center responsibilities for aircraft washes, cleanliness inspections, and corrosion inspections. The prescribed procedures outlined in this MOI are to be followed by personnel requiring authorization to run-up aircraft and test stand engines. Ensure that all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained IAW

Air Force Instruction (AFI) 33-322, Records Management and Information Governance

Program, and disposed of IAW Air Force Records Information Management System (AFRIMS)

Records Disposition Schedule (RDS) located at https://www.my.af.mil/gcss-af61a/afrims/afrims/. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the

Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of

Publication; route AF Form 847s from the field through the appropriate functional chain of command.

1. Procedures.

1.1. Overall responsibility for this operating policy is delegated by the Maintenance Group

Commander (MXG/CC) to the Structural Repair Section Technician as the UCM. All maintenance personnel, regardless of their Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC), are responsible for detecting and documenting corrosion in the proper maintenance forms.

2 125 MOI 21-13 12 SEPTEMBER 2015

2. Wash Cycles are established as follows:

2.1. Aircraft washes will be accomplished in accordance with (IAW) Technical Order

(T.O.) 1-1-691, Aircraft Weapons System Cleaning, table 3-1 (180 Day) and Air National

Guard Instruction (ANGI) 21-105, Air and Space Equipment Maintenance Management, prior to Phase/Periodic Inspections.

2.2. All aircraft flown under 3,000 feet over salt water will have a fresh water rinse performed IAW T.O. 1-1-691, provided that a rinse facility is available. If rinse facility is not available a fresh water rinse may be accomplished by the fire department. Pilots will call in to the Maintenance Operation Control (MOC) when they fly below 3,000 feet, and the MOC will coordinate with the fire department to perform the rinse.

3. Unit Corrosion Managers:

3.1. Ensure that only approved materials from Qualified Product List (QPL) and equipment are used to accomplish corrosion control and prevention.

3.2. Review and maintain a permanent file of completed Air National Guard (ANG) Aircraft

Post-Wash Corrosion Inspection Tables (attachment 3) for each unit assigned aircraft.

4. Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS) Flight/Dock Chiefs are responsible for:

4.1. Ensuring all Crew Chiefs and Phase Dock personnel are trained in correct procedures for washing/cleaning and post wash lubrication of aircraft using T.O. 1F-15C-2-12JG-20-1, Servicing-Aircraft Cleaning, and applicable technical data and job guides.

4.2. Appointing an aircraft wash Supervisor (Crew Chief, Assistant Crew Chief) for each wash. The wash Supervisor will use the Aircraft Wash Supervisor’s table and the Supervisors

Safety briefing IAW ANGI 21-105, or locally developed guidance.

4.3. Ensuring a cleanliness inspection of aircraft is accomplished upon completion of aircraft wash using locally developed worksheet (attachment 2). Flight chief will maintain file of the most current Cleanliness Inspection worksheet for each aircraft.

4.4. Procuring and maintaining Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used during the wash process.

4.5. Ensuring that corrosion inspections are accomplished during each phase/periodic inspection for aircraft by using weapon system -6 work cards.

4.6. Managing the wash rack facilities to include procurement of only qualified products for the QPL and appropriate technical orders.

125 MOI 21-13 12 SEPTEMBER 2015 3

5. Aircraft Structural Maintenance (ASM) Supervisors:

5.1. Ensure that personnel complete a corrosion inspection after each aircraft washing, using the ANG Aircraft Post-Wash Corrosion Inspection Table (attachment 3).

5.2. Ensure corrosion prevention and treatment procedures are accomplished to technical order requirements and T.O. 1-1-689, Cleaning and Corrosion Control and T.O. 35-1-3, Corrosion

Prevention, Painting and Marking of USAF Support Equipment.

6. Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Supervisor:

6.1. Ensure an effective Corrosion Control Program is established and applied for unit assigned equipment.

6.2. Ensure only approved cleaning products provided by Technical Data and QPL are used.

7. Munitions Supervisor:

7.1. Ensure an effective Corrosion Control Program is established and enforced for assigned missiles, munitions, handling equipment and trailers.

8. Avionics, Flight Line, and Test Station Supervisors:

8.1. Ensure an effective Corrosion Control Program is established and enforced for Avionics components and support equipment.

9. Weapons, Flight Line, and Back Shop Supervisors:

9.1. Ensure an effective corrosion Control Program is established and enforced for Weapons components and support equipment.

10. Production Supervisor:

10.1. Provide control and oversight of the Aircraft Wash Civilian Contract crew while on the wash rack or flight line.

11. Quality Assurance:

11.1. Periodically check aircraft for cleanliness, corrosion, and lubrication after washing.

4 125 MOI 21-13 12 SEPTEMBER 2015
