Question: QAPs with major dimensions were provided, which was very helpful thank you. However in our experience, with new tools both the USG and contractor usually additionally require 100% inspection on ~3 parts per tool to fully define the tool and parts produced from it. This is not required for this program? Just 24 majors (28 incl material) comprises the entirety of the inspection required across 4 large highly featured assembly of parts?
Additional 100% inspection of 3 parts per tool is recommended for the development success of the program.
Answer: This contact does not include a Physical Configuration Audit (PCA) clause. That would be our process where a small sample of parts would be 100% inspected against all features of the drawing. What we did call out are the characteristics listed in the QAP. These callouts are attached to MIL-STD-1916 Verification Levels which dictate that 1 in every X parts will have this feature examined. Because we are buying such a small quantity of parts this factor becomes 1 in every 1 part will have this feature examined. This means that we have 100% of parts for this order being examined for each major and minor characteristic. We are examining every part, but not every feature of every drawing.
