About this file

This document is a Drive Away Vehicle Permit issued by the Illinois Secretary of State. It outlines the requirements and procedures for obtaining an Illinois Resident Permit (Intrastate) with a 7-day expiration or a Non-Resident Permit (Interstate) with a 90-day expiration. The permits may only be issued to applicants who can provide proof of vehicle ownership. Illinois resident permits are limited to 3 per vehicle per year, while non-resident permits are limited to 1 per vehicle per year. Permits must be displayed in the rear vehicle window and the vehicle must be operated at empty weight. Dealers selling vehicles to non-residents may issue permits and deliver vehicles at their Illinois place of business without incurring Illinois tax liability.

The document also specifies that dealers and remitters are responsible for retaining records of Drive Away Vehicle Permits issued to their dealership for 3 years. Permits are void if any information is missing or altered, and the operation of a vehicle with the permit requires the vehicle to be covered by the appropriate mandatory liability insurance coverage.
