VBA’s Mission and Vision Drive VBA’s Service to Veterans VA Mission Statement “To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan.”
- Abraham Lincoln
VBA Mission Statement The mission of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), is to provide benefits and services to Veterans and their families in a responsive, timely, and compassionate manner in recognition of their service to the Nation.
VBA Vision Statement Our vision is that the Veterans whom we serve will feel that our Nation has kept its commitment to them; employees will feel that they are both recognized for their contribution and are part of something larger than themselves; and taxpayers will feel that we’ve met the responsibilities they’ve entrusted to us. Courage, honesty, trust, respect, open communication, and accountability will be reflected in our day-to-day behavior.

VBA District Offices
Connecting to Meaningful Civilian Careers VA is dedicated to helping Servicemembers, Veterans, and their families reintegrate into their communities after their service, and transition into meaningful employment that leads to long-term economic success.
Working Draft, Pre-Decisional, Deliberative Document – Internal VA Use Only
Economic Report VA is turning to data on the status of Veteran employment and economic outcomes to further develop and strengthen VA programs.
In January 2015, VA released the inaugural Veteran Economic Opportunity Report.
Key findings include:
Post 9-11 Era Veterans attain 11% higher median earnings than non-Veterans with similar demographic characteristics.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® is a key strategy to improve Veterans’ and their family’s economic opportunity.
Female Veterans are doing well compared to their non-Veteran female and Veteran male peers in both career earnings and education.
Female Veterans attain 14% higher median earnings than the non-Veteran female population with similar demographic characteristics.
Female Veterans participating in the GI Bill® had a 10% higher completion rate compared to male Veterans for all ages combined, an 8% higher completion rate across all individual age groups, and a 5% higher completion rate when compared to female students in the general population cohort.
VA will continue to update this report and use the findings to drive policy and set the strategy for improving existing programs and developing new ones.
