2.02 FABRICATION

A. The work shall be executed using skilled workers in a specialty shop and in accordance with the reviewed submittals. Accurately lay out the fabric so the pattern is absolutely centered for each window and terminates in the same manner. Random cut, non-centered work will not be acceptable.

B. Inspect all fabric materials. Should materials prove defective, the nature of the defects will be identified and conveyed in writing to the Construction Contractor.

C. Fabric shall be hand cut on the thread to dimensions determined from measurements verified at the job site. Selvages shall be trimmed.

D. Tension machine sewing as well as stitching methods, number of stitches per inch, shall be suitable for fabrics sewn and uses intended. Hand sewing shall be employed whenever required to produce straight handling, carefully matched, wrinkle-free installation. Drapery shall have even horizontal top and bottom hems and vertical side seams.

E. Drapery seams shall fall within a fold, or at edges, @ 1/4".

F. Color of thread to match color of fabric sewn.

G. Drapery shall extend from as close as possible to the ceiling or drapery track recess without touching, to within a quarter (1/4) inch of convector, floor or as encountered.

H. Side hems of drapery shall be hand stitched in a manner to prevent puckering. A quarter (1/4) inch tolerance from finished floor to finished drapery hem shall be maintained to within plus or minus a quarter (1/4) inch and the maximum plus and minus tolerance shall not both occur within 6'-0" measured horizontally at the floor or as noted.

I. Text Deleted

J. Traversing Drapery for all locations, shall be 1-1/2 widths of fabric. The traversing drapery shall be pinch pleated presenting an unbroken flow of softly rippled "folds". Folds shall be identical from inside the room or outside the building. Headings shall be suspended under the track.

K. Examine all fabrics and cut away any misweaves or flaws. Where the nature of fabric requires hanging out to stabilize the length, draperies shall be fabricated after fabric is stabilized. Each length shall be cut by pulling a thread completely across the full width from selvage to selvage to assure that each panel is true and square.

L. Where patterned fabrics are used, widths shall be joined together by top stitch with pattern matching perfectly and seam flat pressed unless otherwise specified. Where solid or textured non-matching fabrics are used, widths shall be joined together by twin-needle overlocking stitch to eliminate puckering.

M . Bottom hems shall be of width as scheduled, double turned forming 3 plies of fabric and side hems shall be 1-1/2" wide double turned forming 3 plies of fabric. Bottom and side hems shall be blind stitched. A muslin covered 1" square lead "E" weight shall be inserted at the inside top portion of the bottom hems at each vertical seam and at leading and return edges. Leading edge and return edge shall be closed by hand tacking.

N. For hems requiring additional weights provide continuous weights hand tacked every 18" and at each seam.

O. Each traversing drapery shall be hand tabled for squareness. Each traversing drapery shall be pressed. Provide tenter hooks and rings at stacking end to hold drapery in place.

P. Lining of the Draperies

1. Linings shall be in equal widths to face fabric and shall be joined by twin-needle overlocking stitch to eliminate puckering, joined to face fabric at top using an inside invisible seam and at side hems by hand stitching and shadowed with a 1-1/2" return of the face fabric. Linings shall be hand stitched to face fabric along vertical seams.

2. Pinch pleat shall be uniform and evenly placed

3. Finished lining length shall be 2-1/2" less than finished drapery length. Top of lining hem shall line up with top of face fabric hem. Lining hem shall be joined to face fabric hems by hand crocheted using tacks of linen thread 3" long spaced at 24" centers.

Starting on the work shall imply acceptance of the surfaces and conditions to perform the work as specified.

C. Verify dimensions taken at the job site affecting the work. Bring field dimensions which are at variance, to the attention of the Construction Contractor. Obtain decision regarding corrective measures before the start of installation.

D. Cooperate in the coordination and scheduling of the work of this Section with the work of other Sections so as not to delay job progress.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. The work shall be installed at their designated locations in a plumb and secure manner.

B. The tracks for each window shall be cut to fit and secured with the track's support brackets located at ends and not over 24" o.c. in between in a secure, rigid and dead level manner using the appropriate expansion and/or self-tapping anchoring devices to suit the encountered conditions.
