Thank you for the opportunity to complete a vibration analysis condition monitoring survey. This report contains analysis of the vibration data, including comments and recommendations for corrective action.
Survey information:
Vessel name: GENERAL RUDDER Company: U.S. MARITIME ADMINISTRATION (MARAD) Sign on Port: Galveston, TX Sign off Port: Galveston, TX Data collection start date: Wednesday, April 27th 2022 Data collection end date: Friday, May 13th 2022 Data collected by: PJR and Crew Data collection instrumentation: VA3 - 631712 - PJR, Cal due 2023-04-28 Data collection instrumentation: DC-101058-Rental, Cal due 2023-04-03
Data collection and analysis software: DDS 2022 v 3.6.2.6, CAC Decision Point v5
CAC vibration data collection:
Vibration measurements were obtained in in/sec peak and were taken on each accessible bearing location in three measurement planes. Both overall and vibration signature traces were obtained.
Vibration limit levels:
Measured vibration is compared to vibration limit levels established by CAC's experience with shipboard machinery, as well as ANSI and other standards organizations.
Experienced CAC vibration analysts factored the following:
• Trend analysis
• Readings compared to alarm levels
• Comparison to sister machines and like machinery on sister vessels
• Reported repair history sent to CAC
• Operating conditions.
CAC machine ratings:
This report categorizes machines as follows:
• Unsatisfactory: Machines that require attention.
• Marginal : Machines that are vibrating above initial alarm levels. Increasing wear.
• Satisfactory: Machines operating within acceptable vibration ranges.
• Non-available: Not operating or not safe to take readings.
CAC has the following 'Condition Monitoring' Class certificates:
• ABS Certificate Number 20-4564981-A as a "Recognized External Specialist".
• Lloyds Register Certificate Number LR21116508AS as an "Approved Service Supplier".
CAC maintains all historical data from the vessel. Additional data including vibration signatures and Report Links (PDF) are available on the vessel's home page on the CAC Decision Point ® website at www.cacvibe.net.
DISCLAIMER: CAC assumes no responsibility for machinery failures whatsoever or for any aspect of vessel or machinery operation. Liability is limited to the cost of the service work performed by CAC. CAC service personnel are considered as 'Persons in Addition to the Crew' while onboard. This report is for the use of the client only.

Service the pump, then the motor.
027 PROP. MOTOR VENT FAN MARGINAL
Summary: Fan imbalance/wear.
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 0 Occurs: 1 Comment: B point inaccessible.
Vibration levels have increased and are elevated at fan rotation rate. Fan imbalance and wear is indicated.
Recommend Inspect foundation and mounting bolts. Evaluate support structure. Clean and inspect the fan. Inspect the fan shaft, sheave, and keyway. If levels persist, renew the fan bearings. Balance the fan as a last step.
Summary: Imbalance/wear.
#2 D/G STBD TURBOCHARGER UNSATISFACTORY
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 0 Occurs: 1 Vibration levels exceed the upper alarm at rotation rate. Imbalance and wear are indicated.
Recommend Clean and inspect the rotor. Plan service.
Summary: Monitor generator.
#4 DIESEL GENERATOR CAT D-398B MARGINAL
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 0 Occurs: 1
Comment: At speed no load Vibration levels are excessive on the driven end of the generator and greater than seen on the other units at no load. Vibration is elevated at 7,200 cpm which is either the 6X-rotation rate firing order from the engine or 2X-60Hz line frequency. Rough engine firing at no load is indicated. An electrical fault in the generator cannot be ruled out.
Recommend Retest under load. Inspect foundation bolts. Evaluate generator operation. Do not delay any planned maintenance.

050 BOW THRST. S/W COOLING PUMP MARGINAL
Summary: Bearing wear.
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 40 Occurs: 1 Comment: Recently overhauled.
Vibration levels have increased and are over the alarm. Vibration at 3.64X-rotation rate and multiples indicates a bearing fault. Levels are elevated on the motor and pump.
Recommend Review recent overhaul. Renew bearings.
042 #1 PROP. MOTOR LUBE OIL PUMP MARGINAL
Summary: Decreased. Pump imbalance/foundation flexibility.
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 0 Occurs: 1 Comment: Recently replaced with new motor/pump.
Vibration levels have decreased since the August 2021 readings but remain elevated on the pump. Vibration at rotation rate indicates imbalance and misalignment in the pump or coupling. Levels are twice as high in the horizontal direction indicating flexibility in the support skid. Levels are acceptable on the motor.
Recommend Review recent repairs. Inspect foundation, mounting bolts, and support skid.
Evaluate condition of skid mounts. Inspect the coupling and check alignment. If levels persist, replace the pump.
Summary: Looseness.
FUEL OIL TRANSFER PUMP MARGINAL
Fwd Draft: 15 Aft Draft: 15 Propeller RPM: 0 Occurs: 1 Vibration levels are over the alarm on the motor and driven end of the pump. Levels are greatest at 3X-motor rotation rate in the axial direction indicating looseness or misalignment. Vibration at 6X-pump rotation rate is likely characteristic and affected by flow. Additional vibration at 35,760 cpm has been seen in the past and is likely gear mesh.
Recommend Inspect foundation and mounting bolts. Inspect motor cooling fan, shaft, and coupling for looseness. Check alignment. Verify gearbox lubrication. If levels persist, service the motor.
