About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight (TRILOS) Modernization project. The RFI seeks industry feedback on capabilities of modern TRILOS communications equipment that can provide greater throughput, require less manning, and have advantages in size, weight, power, and cost. The anticipated quantity is approximately 700+ systems with potential for more, to be fielded from FY26-FY33. The distributed Basis of Issue will consist of 2-3 new system variants, including a radio frequency-based system with modular free space optics and/or aerial-tier/variable height mast configurations. The RFI outlines 5 test events on 26 April 2024 to gather data on throughput, latency, and other performance characteristics of the TRILOS systems in various scenarios including at-the-halt, on-the-move, and free space optics. This RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal or commit the government to a contract.

Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight (TRILOS) Modernization
Test Events
26 April 2024
Unclassified
Test Objectives:
• Gather Data on radio throughput and latency in ATH applications
• Will test various antenna configurations, frequencies, and distances for capability. Vendor to provide antenna options
• Various survivability and waveform features will be enabled/disabled to test changes in capability
• Nodes will be inactivated/deactivated to test various topologies (PtP/PtMP/Mesh)
~75 km
~30 km
~12 km
~100 km
Test Scenario:
• Distances are +/- 1-10 km based on terrain of test location
• Anticipate distances ranging from 10 to 100 km based on terrain
• Tests will vary in distance, radio capabilities, and antenna configurations based on vendor responses
• Government will develop test case scenarios based on frequency data and antenna configurations provided in vendors response
~75 - 100 km
Event 1: At-the-Halt (ATH) Testing
26 April 2024
• Gather Data on radio throughput and latency in OTM and VHA applications
• VHA system total payload weight will be ≤5 pounds
• Will test various bands and antenna configurations. Vendor to provide antenna options
• OTM system will circle to verify radiation pattern of antennas
Test Scenario:
• Distances vary +/- from 1 to 5 km based on terrain of test location
• Mast may simulate VHA if not available
• OTM distance starts at 2km and increases over time until signal is lost
• Vehicle types are notional
