About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) from the Department of the Army Materiel Command Army Contracting Command Aberdeen Proving Ground regarding the modernization of Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight (TRILOS) communications equipment. The RFI seeks industry feedback on capabilities of modern TRILOS systems that can provide greater throughput, reduced manning, and advantages in Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWaP-C). The anticipated requirement is for approximately 700+ systems, with potential for additional quantities, to be fielded between FY26-FY33. The RFI indicates the new system variants will likely include a Radio Frequency (RF) based system with modular Free Space Optics (FSO) and/or an aerial-tier/variable height mast configuration. This RFI is for informational and planning purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or guarantee a future solicitation. Respondents will not be reimbursed for costs related to this RFI.

Assumed Conditions:
Throughput Value is for total achievable forward unidirectional UDP user data rate, given in mbps, with Over-the-Air Link Encryption.
For all calculated data points, the demonstrated system shall adhere to NTIA Manual of Regulation & Procedures for Federal Radio Frequency Management (January 2021 Edition (Rev. 1/2023) guidelines for emissions.
The following conditions & parameters shall be used to determine path loss performance for each distance:
a) Assume Clear Line of Sight
b) Availability: 95%
c) Climate Zone: C (Moist Subtropical Mid-Latitude Climate)
d) BER: <1e-7 (< 1 bit error per 10,000,000 bits)
e) Frequencies and Bands: Vendor Defined within 1 GHz - 6 GHz Range
