About this file
This document is a Technical Manual Supplement specification for the KC-46A Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Manual that outlines contractor deliverables and technical requirements.
The contractor must create and submit a digitized standalone KC-46A NDT Manual supplement containing 51 combined approved/accepted inspection tasks extracted from the existing KC-46 NDT Manual to support aircraft inspections. The supplement shall be delivered with the next available scheduled DDN change package and must include inspection procedures across multiple NDT methods: X-Ray (4 tasks), Ultrasonic (24 tasks), and Eddy Current (23 tasks). Each procedure must specify the task number, method, title of inspection, and applicable reference standards. The contractor shall utilize identical procedure identifying numbers and parts as the corresponding procedures in the existing KC-46 NDT manual, ensuring no changes are required to NDT procedure references in other engineering maintenance manuals. Procedures must be sufficiently detailed to accommodate verification with Air Force 5-skill-level and Depot level NDI personnel, with references to other manuals limited to non-procedural information such as specifications, aircraft access, maintenance planning, and safety information.
The contractor must develop inspection procedures using seven specified instruments: Epoch 650 (Ultrasound), Nortec 600D (Eddy Current), Bondmaster 600 (Bondtesting), Lorad LPX-160 and SPX-160 (X-Rays), Industrex HPX-1 and HPX-1+ (Computed Radiography), Flex I & II and CR50P (GE Computed Radiography), and VMI 5100MS (Varex Computed Radiography). For ultrasonic, bond testing, and eddy current procedures, the contractor must include instrument-specific calibration and inspection instructions with initial calibration settings and operational steps, referencing Tech Order 33B-1-2 for general inspection and calibration guidance.

c) The contractor shall utilize the same procedure identifying numbers and parts as the corresponding procedures in the existing KC-46 NDT manual. The supplement shall not require changes to NDT procedure references in other engineering maintenance manuals. The contractor shall provide all necessary procedure details to accommodate the verification with AF 5- skill-level and Depot level NDI personnel. The contractor shall limit any references to other manuals or documents to non-procedural information which may include specifications, aircraft access, maintenance planning and safety information.
d) The contractor shall use the following instruments to write each procedure.
1) Epoch 650, Manufactured by Evident Scientific (Olympus NDT) –
(Ultrasound)
2) Nortec 600D, Manufactured by Evident Scientific (Olympus NDT) – (Eddy
Current)
3) Bondmaster 600, Manufactured by Evident Scientific (Olympus NDT) –
(Bondtesting)
4) Lorad LPX-160 and Lorad SPX-160 (Replacement for the LPX-160), Manufactured by Spellman, used for X-Rays
5) Industrex HPX-1 and HPX-1+ manufactured by Carestream, used for CR inspections
6) Flex I & II, CR50P, Manufactured by GE for Computed Radiography
7) VMI 5100MS, Manufactured by Varex Imaging for Computed Radiography
e) The contractor shall include ultrasonic, bond testing and eddy current procedures for each instrument-specific calibration and inspection instruction.
The contractor shall develop the inspection procedures referencing Tech Order 33B-1-2 for performing general inspections or instrument calibration.
The supplement shall include initial instrument calibration settings and inspection steps of how to operate the instrument.
