About this file
This document contains material specifications for Digital License Plates applicable to all three line items under a federal contract opportunity. The aluminum material must meet Alloy-Temper 7069-H111 specifications with a thickness of 0.024 inches (±0.002 inches) and a standard width of 12 inches plus 1/32 inch with no minus tolerance. The material must demonstrate ultimate tensile strength between 17,000 and 23,000 ksi, a minimum yield strength of 12,000 ksi, and elongation on a 2-inch standard specimen of 16 percent minimum with 20 percent typical performance.
The aluminum shall withstand embossing with steel dies at 3/32-inch height without breaking, cutting, or appreciable plate warping, with embossing limited to edge applications only. The front surface requires a light, tightly adherent, chrome-free conversion coating applied in conformance with Betz Dearborn Permatreat 1021B specification. The surface must be free of powdery residue, oil, and other foreign materials that could compromise adhesion of reflective sheeting.
