About this file

This document is a Scope of Work and General Provisions contract for hay harvesting, issued by the South Dakota National Guard (SDNG) for the 2025 haying season. The contract authorizes a contractor to harvest hay from 12.92 acres located east of the SDNG Sturgis Armory, adjacent to Sturgis High School. The haying period may begin on or after August 8, 2025, with the contractor required to remove all processed hay within 48 hours of processing. The primary purpose of the designated area is to support training and operational readiness of the South Dakota Army National Guard, with the understanding that military training activities may interrupt haying operations.

The contract requires the contractor to provide all labor, equipment, and materials for hay harvesting, including carrying public liability insurance with minimum coverage of $50,000 for property damage and $100,000 for personal liability. The contractor is responsible for vegetation control, maintaining the area's height under 18 inches, and managing any herbicide applications in compliance with South Dakota Codified Laws. Payment is due in full upon contract approval and before the start of haying activities, with the specific per-acre rate not specified in the document. The contractor must adhere to strict safety requirements, including working only between sunrise and sunset, wearing high-visibility safety gear, and coordinating operations with SDNG to avoid conflicts with training activities.
