About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details farrier services for the Seeley Ranger District's livestock at the Monture Guard Station in Powell County, Montana. The contract requires four scheduled services between May and late October to maintain approximately 13 horses and mules, with specific technical requirements including shoeing without ropes, stocks, tables, or sedatives. The contractor must furnish Rim style horseshoes and #5 "City Head" nails, while the government will provide a shoeing platform, hitching rail, and personnel to catch and release stock. The services include an initial shoeing in the first week of May, followed by three additional visits at eight-week intervals, with an on-call option for occasional additional shoeing. The location is approximately seven miles north of Ovando, MT, and contractors must schedule with the designated point of contact at least one week prior to arrival.

Project SLRD Farrier Services
General Information Scope of Work Farrier service for Seeley Ranger District’s livestock. Four scheduled services required to maintain livestock (horses and mules). Estimated quantity is 13 livestock (horses and mules). As the number of livestock may change from year to year, there is no minimum of maximum quantities guaranteed. Additional quantities can be added via modification at the agreement of both parties for the same rate.
Background Scheduled service the first week of May with three additional visits to remove horseshoes, trim feet, and re-shoe animals – at eight-week intervals. The final scheduled service shall occur in late October. We ask that farriers have adequate experience and skills to shoe the stock without roping feet, using stocks, tables, or sedatives. This enables the stock to be re-shoed in the field as needed by personnel. The district stock has been successfully shoed this way for years.
