STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

1 SCOPE. This SOW covers technical and management support services to the Hazardous Waste Technical Department, C106.321. This support is required to divert waste from the landfill and through recycling/reuse programs such as this. The material is successfully diverted from the landfill.

2. REQUIREMENTS. Fire Extinguisher removal is a quarterly requirement in order to stay in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) so not to incur fines.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard is required to replace fire extinguishers every 5 years resulting in accumulation of expired fire extinguishers. The timely execution of funding is crucial to prevent unnecessary accumulation of the items. NNSY is required to divert waste from the landfill and through recycling/reuse programs such as this. The material is successfully diverted from the landfill.

3. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES: When notified, the contractor shall pick up a shipment of fire extinguishers. The fire extinguishers are properly packaged and secured on a pallet(s) and will be picked-up from Building 281 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. A minimum of three days’ notice must be given to the technical point of contact before pickup.

Lifting and Handling is not applicable due to fire extinguishers in boxes and on a pallet that will be moved via a forklift.

PKP cylinders are non-hazardous and are not subject to hazardous waste regulations.
