About this file
This is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for a solicitation regarding the removal of expired fire extinguishers at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). The document clarifies that the fire extinguishers are stored on standard 48"x40" pallets in tri-wall/Gaylord boxes, with dimensions of approximately 24" tall x 10" round (though some are 18-20" tall x 10-12" round). The extinguishers contain powder (not fluid), are either expired or out of specifications, and may or may not have rubber hoses attached.
The contractor will be required to remove fire extinguishers on a quarterly basis (four times per year) during the contract period of performance from mid-January 2025 to mid-January 2026. Once notified, the contractor will have 3-5 business days to complete the removal. No site visit is required for this opportunity. The FAQ confirms these are typical ABC extinguishers, and a Safety Data Sheet is provided as an attachment to the solicitation.
