About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles' Purchasing Division, seeking information about replacing their existing credit card reader hardware due to PCI compliance expiration in April 2026. The RFI requests vendors to provide two demo card readers by the submission deadline of May 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm Pacific Time, with the goal of identifying a solution that supports multiple payment methods including chip, swipe, contactless, digital wallet, PIN and signature debit payments. The department requires hardware compatible with their current CyberSource POS system and future Salesforce-based platform, with a potential volume of up to 450 card readers.

The RFI seeks detailed technical specifications, including processing speed, security features, EMV chip compatibility, USB power supply, and compliance with industry standards like PCI-DSS. Vendors are asked to provide per-unit and bulk pricing for up to 450 card readers, along with comprehensive information about warranty, support services, maintenance schedules, and ongoing technical support. The solicitation emphasizes the need for enhanced payment processing efficiency, security, and user experience, with the understanding that this RFI will not result in an immediate contract award but will be used to analyze aggregate information for potential future solicitation development.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking information regarding the replacement of our existing credit card reader hardware. Our current card reader hardware is out of PCI compliance as of April 2026 and we are exploring new solutions that will enhance our payment processing efficiency, security, and user experience. To meet the needs of the department, the new device will need to be capable of accepting payments via swipe, chip reader (EMV certified), touch/tap, digital wallet (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.), PIN debit and Signature debit. The new device will also need to be flexible enough to allow for programming in our current system as well as our new Salesforce-based platform.
