About this file

This document is a municipal recycling program informational flyer produced by the City of Pittsburgh in collaboration with The Recycling Partnership, focusing on a new curbside blue bin recycling initiative. The City of Pittsburgh was selected to receive grant support for its Zero Waste 2030 goals, and is distributing new blue recycling bins to Environmental Services residents (single-family dwellings, duplexes, and apartments with 5 units or less). Recycling will be collected every other week, with bins to be placed out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day before collection and no later than 6:00 a.m. on collection day.

The program accepts recyclable items including plastic and glass bottles, aluminum and steel containers, cardboard, mixed paper, and food debris, with specific guidelines for preparation and placement. Residents can store bins out of public view like behind or beside their home, under a back porch, or in a garage. The initiative is part of a broader environmental and economic strategy to create jobs, protect shared environments, and empower communities, funded in part by The Recycling Partnership. Interested residents can obtain more information by visiting pittsburghpa.gov/blue-bin-info or calling 311 or 412-255-2621.
