About this file

This document details technical specifications for a heavy equipment simulator system, likely intended for a state or local training program focused on excavator operator education. The specifications outline a comprehensive simulator that includes a fully functional training system with authentic machine controls, a three-monitor setup, and a motion platform with removable actuators providing three degrees of freedom. The simulator features detailed training exercises such as machine walkaround, controls familiarization, maneuvering, trenching, truck loading, and backfilling, with the ability to measure over 120 performance metrics across various operational scenarios.

The system includes comprehensive software components with a learning management platform, a one-year curriculum subscription, and a three-year maintenance and support package. Technical requirements specify a Dell Precision 3860 computer with 32GB memory, Windows 11 Professional, and a multi-monitor configuration. The simulator is designed to provide a realistic training environment with deformable terrain, interactive dirt simulation, multiple language options, and the capability to generate detailed performance reports. Hardware specifications include a durable tubular steel frame, authentic joystick controls, and a motion platform that simulates real-world equipment movements such as tramming, turning, swinging, and grade ascent/descent. The system comes with a one-year hardware and software warranty and is intended to create a blended learning experience for heavy equipment operator training.

• Keyboard and mouse for easy navigation of software.

• Durable tubular steel frame

• Operator’s seat that slides forward and backward on frame and tilts forward and backward.

• Fully functional seat belt with sensor connected to computer software.

· Ability to add additional heavy equipment models to the system for various pieces of equipment.

• Computer requirements:

· Dell Precision 3860 (Processor- Intel)

· Memory – 32GB

· Video Card

· Operating System – Windows 11 Professional, x64, English

• Monitor stand with three vertically hung 43” LED 1080P

• Power requirements: Simulator-100 – 250V – 50/60HZ power supply, PC-100-250V – 50/60hz power supply, Monitor-100 – 250V – 50/60HZ power supply

• Simulator Dimensions: Roughly 7’ x 6’ Heavy Equipment Training Programs will need to be available:

A Training Records Management System should include the following:

o Able to set up individual student accounts o Group students into classes o Archive student records for grades or future reference o Allows the ability to change metric standards for each exercise o Ability to choose which exercises a student must complete o Print detailed reports for the class, individual student, or exercises o Restrict access to simulator results in the database as needed o Set which metrics you want your students to achieve Reporting Tools will need to be available:

• After completion of exercise, a report should be generated with metrics measured and a pass or fail score. Scoring for each exercise should be generated based on time, productivity, equipment damage (number of contacts with external objects), and training exercise success.

o Training Metrics There should be a comprehensive library of metrics to provide performance assessments.

· No less than 120 Metrics

· Exercise Metrics

· Controls Familiarization – 41 measured metrics

· Machine Walkaround – 52 inspections points o Examples of Metrics measured:

· Execution Time

· Productivity

· Volume Moved

· Number of Bucket Slams

· Number of Collisions

· Percent on Grade

• Deformable terrain: 200x200 meter

• All dirt is interactive with the machine in simulation.

• The simulation exercises should give step-by-step onscreen instruction to complete an exercise.

• There should be an exam mode with no on screen instruction. The exam results should automatically save the record in a Records Management System database for review.

• 3D Modeling of the excavator should be based on a real excavator. The simulator should generate a report describing how the operator would perform in a real environment.

• Multiple languages should be available.

• 1-year hardware and software warranty should be included. This warranty includes the replacement of defective simulator hardware pieces and/or software due to defects in workmanship or materials during the warranty period.

• 3 years of phone, email support and maintenance software updates shall be provided.

• Complete excavator simulator software must be pre-loaded and tested as a fully functional operating system before shipment.

Training Exercises

• Machine Walkaround: Pre-operation machine inspection procedures to ensure proper operating and safety conditions, including faulty points of non-operational parts.

• Controls Familiarization: Operator controls and proper sequences for machine operations including start-up and shut-down procedures.

• Maneuvering Machine. Learn to maneuver machine around worksite.

• Raking the Green: Position excavator bucket to follow trajectory in a straight line.

• Over the Moon: Position excavator bucket to follow arc movements of the stick/boom/bucket combination.

• Trenching: Use bucket to excavate trench.

• Truck Loading: Load dirt into bucket and dump contents into articulated truck from ground level using “over the rail” technique.

• Backfilling: Backfill a trench.
