Summary of Le Mars Maintenance Garage Sealant Replacement Project Specifications
This document comprises the technical specifications and administrative requirements for the Le Mars Maintenance Garage Sealant Replacement project, issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) under Contract Number BG-2L21(004)--80-75. The project involves the removal and replacement of approximately 1,650 linear feet of existing building sealant and backer rods at control joints, expansion joints, window penetrations, and around building penetrations, along with approximately 350 linear feet of sealant in joints between the existing building and existing paving at the Le Mars Maintenance Garage facility in Warren County, Iowa. The contract is structured as a single prime contract based on stipulated pricing under Iowa DOT's Standard Bid Terms and Conditions. Pierce Coady of the Design Team, Support Services Bureau serves as the Owner Project Manager. The project timeline extends to June 30, 2026, with a preconstruction meeting to be scheduled by the Owner following the Notice of Award. Bidders are strongly encouraged to schedule a site visit to assess existing conditions.
The specifications establish comprehensive requirements for sealant materials, installation procedures, quality assurance, and project administration. Nonsag gunnable sealants (Type EXT-1, nonstaining silicone) and self-leveling pourable sealants (Type EXT-2, silicone) are specified, with all sealants and primers required to have lower volatile organic compound (VOC) content than required by SCAQMD 1168. The contractor must perform preinstallation field adhesion testing using destructive testing methods per ASTM C1521 prior to general installation. The specifications mandate comprehensive project documentation including record drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, bonds, waste management reports, and demonstration and training for Owner personnel. Contractors are responsible for temporary utilities, facilities, site security, waste management with emphasis on recycling and salvage, and progressive site cleaning. The project requires compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and contractors must maintain one-year maintenance service from the Date of Substantial Completion or the warranty period, whichever is longer.

1. Prepare a separate RFI for each specific item.
2. Prepare in a format and with content acceptable to Owner.
a. Use AIA G716 - Request for Information .
C. Reason for the RFI: Prior to initiation of an RFI, carefully study all Contract Documents to confirm that information sufficient for their interpretation is definitely not included.

If in Contractor's belief it is likely to lead to a change to Contract Sum or Contract Time, promptly issue a notice to this effect, and follow up with an appropriate Change Order request to Owner.
1. Response may include a request for additional information, in which case the original RFI will be deemed as having been answered, and an amended one is to be issued forthwith.
Identify the amended RFI with an R suffix to the original number.
2. Do not extend applicability of a response to specific item to encompass other similar conditions, unless specifically so noted in the response.
