Specifications for Large Bed Compression Machine for Plastic Pipe

This specification document outlines the requirements for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) procurement of a Large Bed Compression Machine for plastic pipe testing. IDOT is seeking qualified vendors to provide equipment capable of performing compression testing on large diameter plastic pipes. The machine must be capable of applying controlled compressive loads to test specimens in accordance with established testing standards. The solicitation is open to all vendors registered in BidBuy, IDOT's procurement platform. No specific quantities, response deadlines, site visit requirements, or bidder conferences are detailed within this specification document. The contract represents a rebid opportunity, indicating a previous procurement cycle for the same equipment.

The specifications detail technical performance requirements and operational capabilities the compression machine must meet, including load capacity, specimen chamber dimensions, control systems, and data recording functionality. The document establishes acceptance criteria and quality standards for the equipment. No pricing information, set-asides, incumbent vendor details, funding sources, or contract term lengths are provided in this specification document. Interested vendors must meet all technical specifications outlined herein and comply with IDOT's standard procurement terms and conditions available through the BidBuy platform.

Specifications for Large bed compression machine for plastic pipe Purpose: To replace an outdated testing machine to the new building that meets material testing Stiffness and Flattening requirements for AASHTO M252, AASHTO M294, ASTM F949, ASTM D3034 and American Water Works Association PVC pipes.

General Requirements:

Testing machineA properly calibrated compression testing machine capable of constant rate-of-crosshead movement type meeting the requirements of Test Method ASTM D2412 and ASTM D695.
Machine software and computer, if required, shall be included
Rate of Head ApproachMachine shall be capable of compressing pipe at a rate of 0.5±0.02 in. (12.5±0.5 mm)/min for product stiffness and capable of segmented tests to increase head speed for flattening testing on a single specimen.
Specimen SizesMachine shall be capable of testing 4-60in plastic pipe for stiffness and flattening
Loading platesThickness of plates shall be sufficient so that no bending or deformation occurs during the test. Plate length shall equal or exceed the specimen length and plate width shall not be less that the pipe contact width at maximum pipe defection plus 6 in. Plates shall be large enough to conduct stiffness and flattening for all pipe specifications listed above, including up to 60” diameter pipe
Powerstandard 120V or 220V
Frame capacitymax 300 kN
Crosshead Speed0.05 to 500 mm/min
Crosshead travelmin 1600mm
Stroke Resolution0.001mm
Load Measurement Accuracy±0.5% of reading down to 1/1000 of load cell capacity
