About this file

This is a specifications document for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) regarding the replacement of a digital sign at the Cadillac Rest Area on northbound US 131 in Cadillac, Michigan. The project requires the successful contractor to furnish and install a complete Daktronics model GS6-60x75-15.85 RGB marquee display (44" tall by 50" wide with a housing depth not exceeding 5") featuring full-color outdoor LED technology with integrated time and temperature capabilities. The scope of work includes constructing a sign base with cultured stone facing (Owens-Corning CSV 2084 Earth River Rock or equal), establishing electrical connections from the building to the sign location approximately 200 feet away, and completing all site restoration. The contractor must bury 3/4" conduit 12" deep from an electrical box located on the northwest corner of the truck parking lot, with hand-digging required for the first section due to existing infrastructure. Additional responsibilities include installing a 20-amp GFI plug, outdoor-rated power switch, removing the current sign base, and site reseeding with Highway Mix. A mandatory pre-construction walkthrough is required for the awarded vendor, with work completion required by September 11, 2026. Work is prohibited on Fridays, weekends, and holidays due to the rest area's high traffic volume.

The contractor is responsible for all permits and inspections from the State of Michigan, LARA, and MDOT, as well as contacting MISS DIG for site marking. The successful contractor must provide three login credentials and online training access to enable MDNR staff to operate the sign remotely. The document does not specify pricing terms, contract duration, funding sources, or amounts. The contractor must supply the sign's serial number upon installation for tracking purposes and contact Daktronics representative Jeff Good (jeff.good@daktronics.com, 863-450-8421) for vendor coordination. Site restoration must match or exceed the original condition in accordance with Michigan Department of Transportation Standard Specifications.
