Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) Instrument

SPECIFICATIONS

Scope: Delivery, installaon, and familiarizaon of a fully automated Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) Instrument used for analyzing and characterizing the change in material weight as a funcon of temperature or me.

A TGA monitors the increase or decrease in the mass of a sample as a funcon of temperature or me as the sample is subjected to a controlled temperature program under a controlled atmosphere. The instrument consists of a sample pan or crucible that is weighed on a precision balance. The pan is placed into a furnace where it is heated in a controlled atmosphere and the weight of the sample is monitored during the experiment. The atmosphere gas can be inert or reacve and flows over the sample and is exited through an exhaust port. Materials for characterizaon include foods, carbohydrates, proteins, fats and lipids, and petroleum products among other types of samples.

The TGA instrument will be capable of quanfying water, solvent, and plascizer loss, decarboxylaon, pyrolysis, oxidaon, decomposion, weight percent filler, amount of metallic catalyc residue remaining on carbon-based sample, and weight ash percentage. The TGA will have an integrated programmable autosampler for placing and removing sample pans from the measurement cell. Ideally, the autosampler will also have the ability to pierce or remove pan lids use to keep moisture out of a sample unl the sample can be run by the TGA. Many experiments will be conducted from room temperature to 1000 °C and the heang furnace of the TGA should be capable of reaching an upper operang temperature of at least 1000 °C and capable of maintaining an isothermal temperature and using a controlled heang ramp rates as needed. Instrument soware provides programmed control of heang and cooling temperature ramps, isothermal scans, an autosampler for placing and removing sample pans and mass flow controllers for switching furnace atmosphere gases within the furnace during an experiment. The soware records data and analyzes the results, graphs the data and exports tabulated data and graphs to electronic format for interpreng the results. Preferably, the TGA instrument should not require a mechanical cooler (refrigerated cooling system-not dependent on liquid nitrogen) to cool the furnace aer an experiment.

Features, Components, Accessories, Modules, Soware and/or Services to be included:

1. Automated Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) Instrument with built in furnace and integrated precision balance for analyses.

2. Automated furnace control with a temperature range from ambient to 1000 °C.

3. Linear controlled heang rates of 0.1 to 100 °C/min or beter.

4. Sample weight capacity 1,000 mg or less.

5. Weight baseline dri 25 µg or lower.

6. Resoluon 0.1 µg or lower.

7. Temperature precision = ± 0.1 °C or beter.

8. Thermally isolated precision balance with low dri and high sensivity to deliver the most accurate real-me data.

9. Touch screen user interface and/or computer interface and analyses soware.

10. Computer, monitor, keyboard, and soware for interface, instrument control, and graphing, measurement, analysis, and export of TGA experiments and data.
