About this file
This document outlines a federal contract opportunity for the purchase of single cell sequencing reagents. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking consumables from 10X Genomics to generate single cell gene expression data from brain tissue as part of research studying the mechanisms of hibernation in mammals. The reagents are proprietary and only available from 10X Genomics via their distribution partner Government Scientific Source. The NIH requests 48 reactions of the Chromium Next GEM Single Cell 3' HT Kit v3.1 and one training kit to be delivered by December 2023/January 2024 to a laboratory at their Bethesda, Maryland campus. The purpose of the acquisition is to enable generation of a single cell atlas of the hibernating ground squirrel brain to further understanding of hibernation and its potential applications to human health.

Specification / Configuration
Background Information: (Describe the lab and the research being done with the items you wish to purchase)
Acquiring the 10X genomics consumables listed below will enable us to generate a single cell atlas of the brain of the hibernating ground squirrel. This will help us understand the underlying mechanism of hibernation in mammals to protect the body and organs from extreme conditions, putatively guiding us to identify measures to protect humans after traumatic injury. This will be beneficial for NIH’s mission to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health and reduce illness and disability.
Justification Rationale for the request: (describe the technical requirements or proprietary contents of the items you wish to purchase‐I.e., They use a proprietary method, components, the items are compatible with XYZ equipment, etc.)
The 10X Genomics Chromium X system allows performing cutting edge high‐throughput single cell or nuclei sequencing. To run an experiment on this platform we require the appropriate consumables. The items are proprietary and there is no other manufacturer than 10X Geonomics (sold through
Government Scientific Source) available to provide the required materials.
